Merrick is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our Energy & Chemicals Business Unit. This full time, direct hire position, will be responsible for engineering, design, coordination, client communications and associated construction administration.

This position will be located in our Greenwood Village, Colorado or Tulsa, OK office.

Job Description:

This Engineer will work in a dynamic multi-discipline environment, accountable for the oversight of engineering deliverables, calculations, systems and equipment selection, mechanical design, mechanical engineering budget and schedule management, maintain professional relationships with vendors, customers, and other Merrick personnel as required by projects. The Engineer will work with other engineering and technical personnel to ensure overall project goals are met.

Scope/Key Responsibilities:

  • Application of knowledge in Bioprocessing, Oil & Gas, Chemical, Power, and Industrial facilities/systems (Conceptual Design):

  • Ensures understanding and compliance with owner's requirements of the facility or corporate standards related to mechanical design.

  • Confirms and reviews applicable codes and standards such as, but not limited to, the IBC, ASME, API, PIP and NFPA.

  • Given the scope of design services, the owner's facility standards, and relevant industry standards, establish and document the mechanical systems basis of design and in doing so provide clarification, qualifications and design assumptions regarding relevant design issues.

  • Works with facility owner to ensure that the appropriate cost- effective systems and equipment are utilized in their facility.

  • Works with owner and construction management team to validate construction cost and provide value-engineering options as necessary.

  • Design:

  • Performs and documents engineering calculations related to mechanical engineering for the purpose of selecting code compliant systems and equipment.

  • Performs systems and equipment selections.

  • Performs sizing of equipment.

  • Provides input to piping group related to mechanical equipment and in doing so establishes the appropriate level of detail to ensure completeness and accuracy of design and construction cost.

  • Schedules mechanical equipment data sheet and specification reviews.

  • Ensures project specifications are complete and accurate.

  • Performs pipe stress analysis utilizing software such as CAESAR II, NozzlePro, etc.

  • Works with the project team to design a cohesive, technically acceptable, and optimized piping system.

  • Performs pressure vessel calculations utilizing software such as PV Elite.

  • Performs detailed reviews of piping isometrics, piping plans, pipe specifications, P&IDs, and other design documents.

  • Construction Support:

  • Responsible for problem solving for field oversights.

  • Responsible for vendor drawing/Submittal review.

  • Performs field inspections and review of reports.

  • Responsible for addressing project RFI.

  • Profitability:

  • Completes project within provided budget and prepares Change Orders when scope is expanded.

  • Planning/Scheduling:

  • Provides direction for what is to be included in bid package issue.

  • Works with Project Engineer/Manager to ensure that project schedule will be met, and complete documents provided for each deliverable.

  • Professional Development:

  • Maintains required licensing CEU.

  • Proactively attempts to receive in-house/out-of-house training to maintain and update skills.

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from ABET accredited program required.

  • Experience working successfully in a collaborative environment.

  • 8+ years industry experience.

  • Registered Professional Engineer or ability to obtain your PE within the first year of employment.

  • Experience with Design/Build and EPC projects.

  • Project Engineering experience.

  • Experience leading teams of engineers on design projects.

  • Candidate must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Desired Credentials and Skills:

  • Pipe stress analysis experience utilizing software such as CAESAR II.

  • Significant experience with bioprocessing facility equipment and systems.

  • PV Elite pressure vessel analysis.

  • Knowledge of ASME B31.3 and B31.1.

The eligible candidate must be a U.S. Citizen with an active TS SCI with Polygraph clearance.</p><p>Potential signing bonus may be considered.</p><p>Job Description</p><p>The Senior Mechanical Facilities Engineer will design HVAC and Plumbing/Piping systems for an exciting range of mission critical to mission support projects. Project work will encompass:</p><ul><li><p>Plan, conduct, and coordinate detailed phases of HVAC and Plumbing design work with calculations, process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, layout of mechanical equipment and associated duct and piping systems, and sequences of operations.</p></li><li><p>Develop mechanical construction and equipment specifications, test and inspection plans, and system design descriptions.</p></li><li><p>Evaluate, select, and apply standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform a task or sequence of tasks for projects with less complex features, but also collaborate and use judgment to determine adaptations in methods for non-routine aspects of assignments and more complex projects.</p></li><li><p>Perform engineering quality assurance checks of project designs.</p></li><li><p>Support new project proposals with mechanical discipline scopes, budget estimates, and schedules.</p></li></ul><p>The Senior Mechanical Facilities Engineer will be a key member of a multi-disciplinary team of architectural and engineering staff producing project design packages of drawings, specifications, and calculations. The position includes a leadership component with task assignment and work coordination with engineers, designers, and administrative staff. Periodic travel to other Merrick offices or project site locations, including international travel, may be required.</p><p>As an employee owner with Merrick, every day and each diverse HPF design project brings meaningful challenges and opportunities to grow technical design and leadership skills.
