Position Responsibilities

IPS is hiring! We are looking for a talented Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our industry leading Mechanical Engineering team at our Chelmsford, MA office location.

The Lead Mechanical Engineer works independently on various projects as assigned by the Discipline Director or a Project Manager. The Lead Mechanical Engineer will oversee the entire mechanical design process and assist as a technical expert on specialized design projects within the Pharmaceutical, Biotech, and Medical Device industries. The Lead Mechanical Engineer may work on several concurrent projects and is recognized as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the Mechanical Engineering Discipline.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assesses project requirements, breaks projects into tasks, and works with Project Managers to determine scope of work while overseeing budget and staffing.

  • Writes scopes of work for mechanical designs based on preliminary review and client meetings.

  • Prepares engineering studies and schematic design for new mechanical systems and analyzes the operation of existing systems. Ability to analyze existing central utility plant systems and equipment and determine applicability in renovation projects.

  • Works with code officials and other design professionals when an interpretation or exception to building codes is required.

  • Assigns and reviews the work of the project design teams, checks the progress of the work, and alerts Project Managers of scope changes or additional services.

  • Ability to perform target cost design work when projects have initial target construction costs.

  • Coordinates all aspects of project document completion within IPS, externally with clients, and with other relevant design professionals.

  • Ability to develop mechanical discipline specific construction budgets based on the project scope.

  • Special projects as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • A minimum of 15 years of engineering experience with a minimum of 10 doing mechanical designs on industrial, light industrial, or large scale commercial projects.

  • Bachelors of Engineering Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university

  • Minimum 5 years central utility plant design experience related to chilled water, condenser water, hot water and steam systems.

  • Working knowledge of energy analysis and simulation software systems.

  • Working knowledge of piping analysis and modeling software.

Qualifications considered a plus:

  • Professional Engineer License a plus.

  • LEED AP BD+C a plus.

  • Experience in design of LEED related building utility systems.

  • Design experience with target cost design and ability to offer value engineering solutions on systems and materials.

Additionally, this functional role requires an in-depth understanding of discrete manufacturing business process, engineering product definition, Bill of Material (BOM) configuration management and change control business systems. Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: * Administration of PDM Professional software * Functional support for the enhancement, development, implementation, migration, and upgrade of engineering software * Provide expert knowledge of vault configuration and data management * Security administration of new user or group permissions * Support the management of PDM Professional configuration (setup, folders, moving/deleting/rollback of vault files) * Support meta-data and systems configuration management (data cards, search, system variables, etc.) * Review license usage and needs to support all users * Maintain and update standard formats and templates for engineering documentation. * Support users in the application of CAD software and the proper use of the CAD storage vault and associated workflows * Create and maintain engineering documentation including generation of detail, assembly, and component specification drawings. * Perform end user training and serve as a mentor and/or trainer for the staff * Understanding of configuration management best practices throughout the product lifecycle * Work with supply chain, engineering, manufacturing, quality, program management, and other supporting functions in order to accurately structure new products and document product changes as part of the product development, continuous improvement, and sustaining engineering processes * Interface with all key internal customers in order to accurately process changes and structure new products through the company's ERP system. * Own and manage complex change workflows * Support regulatory team to review and scope efforts needed for products to continue to comply with changing industry standards * Perform daily tasks including, but not limited to: * ERP data entry * Assigning new part numbers * BOM creation Basic Qualifications: * Associate's Degree or higher in an Engineering or Information Technology discipline from an accredited institution * Five or more (5+) years Advanced SolidWorks 3D CAD experience * Five or more (5+) years SolidWorks PDM Professional (ePDM) experience in a manufacturing environment * Previous experience with various software and business systems such as: * ECR/ECO workflows * Product Data Management * CAD Administration (SolidWorks, AutoCAD a plus) * ERP software (SAP a strong plus) * Ability to create and read engineering drawings and specifications, understanding of ANSI/ASME Y14.5 * Previous experience with BOM generation and configuration management Preferred Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree or higher in an Engineering or Information Technology discipline from an accredited university * Previous experience with data migration, including import, export, and data mapping * Strong communication and technical skills with the ability to quickly grasp technical issues/concepts * Experience working in a geographically diverse development organization with multi-disciplinary teams * Experience with ISO audits, trade compliance and regulatory certification processes. * Proven ability to exercise indirect leadership and work independently; * Creative yet practical in problem solving and decision making * Self-motivated, creative and strategic thinker * Hands-on team player with positive attitude, takes ownership, results driven, strong attention to detail * Working knowledge of Microsoft Office - Power Point, Word, Excel Visio If you are an individual with a disability who requires reasonable accommodation to complete any part of our application process, click here for further assistance.
