Job Description Summary
The Lead Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the thermal and structural design and analysis of RF Body coils for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). This role will work with cross-functional teams to design, develop, manufacture and service complex state-of-the-art MRI systems and components throughout all phases of the product development life cycle. Activities include detailed mechanical, structural, and thermodynamic design of sub-systems and components related to MRI RF Body coils, including analysis, simulation, documentation, prototyping, testing, verification, and integration of hardware.

Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities:
Thermal and Structural design and analysis of RF Body coils and components used in MRI systems
Develop innovative designs to meet all thermal-mechanical requirements for performance, reliability, cost, and manufacturability
Detailed FEA thermal modeling with all fundamental forms of heat transfer and structural analysis of complex geometries
Thermal-mechanical stress analysis using temperature dependent properties
Design and analysis of composite components (eg. Fiber reinforced plastic, epoxies, carbon and glass fibers)
Design and implementation of verification activities using accelerometers, strain gages, spectrum analyzers, thermocouples, temperature sensors, thermal cameras, pressure sensors, and data acquisition systems
Preparation and presentation of design analysis reports and part/assembly drawing reviews
Participate and lead prototype build activities to ensure compliance with design intent
Develop product and component test and purchase specifications
Design leadership of productivity projects (both product cost and life cycle quality or reliability improvements)
Provide creative solutions to unstructured product and system design issues from both factory and field
Required Qualifications:
Minimum of BS in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or equivalent
Engineering experience: 5 years
Desired Characteristics:
Direct design & analysis experience of mechanical components
Modeling skills with experience in solid modeling packages such as PRO/E
Effective understanding and working knowledge of metals, plastics, and composite materials
Experienced in test setup, data collection, and design of experiments for thermal-mechanical testing
Strong software skills with some experience in ANSYS FEA and/or other analysis packages such as COMSOL.
Experience with numerical analysis tools and optimization methods
Hands on hardware experience on mechanical systems and components
Paper to product experience with ability to read and apply GD&T
Ability to work with cross-functional, multidisciplinary teams
