Job Title: Lead Marketing and Public Relations Specialist

Job Description:

  • The Lead Marketing and Public Relations Specialist will leverage their expertise to drive strategic marketing and communication initiatives within the College of Science. As a recognized subject matter expert, they will play a pivotal role in executing the direction of our communications efforts, contributing to audience engagement, and translating complex scientific concepts for broad audiences. You will be reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communication, they will be responsible for executing the comprehensive marketing and communication plan of the college as defined by the Dean and senior leadership, through supervision of supporting staff they will guide processes and to create digital content for multiple campaigns, manage science communication channels, delegate dissemination of communication content, pitch science stories, edit scripts for videos, podcasts and blogs, and foster an inclusive culture within the work community. This person's team will collaborate with faculty, students, and staff, and will coordinate the development and delivery of impactful marketing materials across print, email, and social media to support the College's objectives and goals. This position also works collaboratively with the University's Marketing and Communications division and ensures all marketing plans and communications are in line with Purdue University's master brand.

What We're Looking For:

Education and Experience Needed:

  • Bachelor's degree in communication, public relations, journalism, or related field

  • Minimum of Six (6) - Seven (7) years of experience in a communication-related role, with demonstrated expertise in strategic communication planning and execution

  • Public relations experience helpful.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree

  • Background in science communication is a plus

Skills Needed:

  • Proven track record of successfully managing large projects or processes in marketing and communication with the ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously

  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to coach and mentor others effectively

  • Exceptional interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to build relationships and drive consensus across diverse stakeholder groups

  • Excellent problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to navigate difficult and complex challenges

  • Excellent writing and editing skills involving science-based topics
