Lead Maintenance Worker - Wwtp

Perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the operation, construction, maintenance and repair of wastewater collection systems and related facilities.Display honest, trustworthy, and ethical behavior when dealing with internal and external customers.

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Regular attendance that is punctual and dependable is required.

Assist in televising, cleaning, and repair of the wastewater collection system in the City.

Maintain inventory of tools and equipment necessary to perform maintenance and repair activities; request parts necessary to perform maintenance and repairs.

Maintain various records of maintenance and repair services, including asset management software/hardware and coordination with City GIS personnel.

Remove snow and ice from City facilities when necessary.

Investigate public complaints and determine source of problem.

Locate sewer mains for the City and other outside utility companies.

Operate construction and maintenance equipment such as trucks, tractors, and loaders for a variety of construction and maintenance projects at the facility.

Utilize a variety of hand and power tools; assist in routine maintenance of such equipment.

Utilize proper safety precautions in all work performed.

Assist in other sections of the department as necessary.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Perform on-call duties as assigned.Knowledge of:

Safe maintenance and repair practices and procedures used at the facility.

Purposes and uses of a variety of vehicles, equipment, power tools and hand tools.

Hydraulic, electric, pneumatic, and pumping systems at the facility.

Ability to:

Perform unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in a variety of construction and maintenance activities.

Perform difficult manual labor tasks including lifting heavy weights, stooping, bending and twisting.

Interpret City maps regarding the location of various City infrastructure.

Operate a variety of construction and maintenance equipment.

Understand and carry out oral and written directions.

Operate a variety of vehicles and equipment in a safe and effective manner.

Provide functional and technical supervision to less experienced personnel.

Work effectively in the absence of close supervision.

Learn advanced computer operation.  Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:

Knowledge and ability to use computers and related technology efficiently.

Previous experience in industrial maintenance is preferred.

Experience with asset management software preferred.

Training:

Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance. High school diploma or GED preferred.

License or Certification:

Employee must possess a valid driver's license and maintain insurability as determined by the City's insurance carrier. Click here to view our driver eligibility requirements.  

Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, an appropriate, valid Class A commercial driver's license within six (6) months of hire.

Completion of Sacramento Study Course - Operation & Maintenance of Wastewater Collection System, Volumes 1 & 2 within one (1) year of hire.

Working Hours:

Monday-Thursday 6:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.; on-call duties as assigned.

Salary:

Position will start at the entry level of the City's salary table.  Consideration may be given if experience exceeds entry level qualifications.
