Lead Maintenance Mechanic- Marshall, MN
Job Summary
Perform all related duties to the Maintenance Mechanic position such as build, maintain, and repair production equipment for all departments along with assisting in the coordination and leadership of the Maintenance team.
Essential Job Functions
Continue to perform all duties of a Maintenance Mechanic
Assist in the coordination for the work of the Maintenance team
Communicate with supervisors daily with progress of ongoing projects
Review and coordinate the planned upcoming projects and develop purchase requests for the materials needed
Assists with the installation of new equipment as required
Complete follow up inspections of projects, making sure that the area was left clean and all parts and tools were put in their proper place
Provide and participate in Daily Safety Toolbox Talks and lead pre-job stretches
Work closely with maintenance supervisor, superintendent, and planner to coordinate tasks and projects for the team along with ensuring all materials for projects are ordered as needed
Assist in the development and training for maintenance employees and maintenance-related training for the entire plant
Maintains expert knowledge of equipment, operations, and processes throughout the plant
Create work orders and develop a strong understanding of how to utilize Maximo efficiently
Provide input on performance of assigned colleagues
Demonstrates knowledge of safety policies and practices while ensuring other colleagues adhere to safety work practices
Fill in for supervisor
Food Safety issues
Evaluates JSA requirements and requests support to develop when needed
Performs duties in a safe manner, utilizing all approved safety equipment, and successfully completes all safety certification requirements
May perform reasonably similar or related duties as assigned
Job Requirements
Post-Secondary mechanical education (preferred)
5 or more years industrial mechanical experience
Leadership training or experience (preferred)
Qualified as a 102 Maintenance Mechanic or obtains qualification within 1 year of accepting position
Identify, understand, and have ability to communicate with others plant hazards
Complete all required safety training in addition to following and display knowledge of all safety procedures
Have general understanding of how to use a computer and email
Communicate effectively through speech and writing along with other mediums such as email
Must stay motivated and show initiative to complete tasks under limited supervision
Display quality work through strong attention to detail
Work with a team orientation by coordinating efforts with colleagues to complete tasks effectively.
Provide occasional support to the unit on nights, weekends, or holidays, including overtime
Meet requests of supervision including but not limited to the essential functions listed
Utilize trucks, forklifts, computers, hand tools, testing equipment, JLG lifts, wiring, rigging, and other tools or equipment correctly
Able to meet physical requirements and perform duties in working conditions listed below
Working Conditions
Day shift- average of 40 hours a week - could work 10 or 8 hour days
Duties performed inside and outside
May be exposed to various temperatures and humid conditions
May perform tasks in tight spaces
Often working performing tasks at high elevations always with the use of proper PPE
Atmosphere exposure: fumes, odors, dust, gas, and poor ventilation. Due to the wide variety of tasks in all production areas, this position is exposed to many atmospheres
Hazard exposure: mechanical, electrical, chemical, and explosive. Extreme heat is also encountered in productions areas during summer months
Protective Clothing Required: Hardhat, earplugs, safety glasses, steel-toed shoes/ boots, gloves, cut resistant sleeves, winter gear, high visibility vests, fall protection
Physical Requirements
Move or lift up to 50 lbs.
Lifting may consist of: continuously carrying, or pushing carts of tools and replacement parts from maintenance shop to production areas
Position self to conduct work at various heights and positions
Ability to ascend/ descend many flights of stairs or ladders
Be on feet walking/ moving around majority of typical work day
Repetitive use of limbs such as manipulation of levers by hands to operate maintenance truck along with use of feet to operate pedals for truck, forklift, JLG lifts, or other vehicles
Speech, vision, smell, touch, and hearing all needed senses to communicate effectively, recognize process upsets, and identify possible safety threats
