Lead Integration Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Application Engineering Group in the Information Technology Services DevOps Team designs, implements, and deploys effective application development and integration solutions that enable seamless communication and data exchange between different software systems within the University's business applications and data management ecosystem. The Lead Integration Engineer is a senior-level individual contributor who serves as the technical lead for the Application Engineering Group.

The Lead Integration Engineer has primary responsibility for the architecture of integration platforms and the development of robust, scalable, and secure integrations to drive operational efficiency. The Lead Engineer defines integration strategies, patterns, and toolsets used within the team, and personally develops complex integrations using API calls and other integration strategies.

The Lead Integration Engineer leads all elements of the integration workstream including design, development, testing, deployment, and continuous maintenance. The Lead collaborates effectively with the Data Engineering Group and DevOps engineers to align integration efforts with overall ITS strategy. The Lead Integration Engineer is a senior hands-on role requiring solid theoretical knowledge and familiarity with industry best practices, as well as advanced skills in using specific tools and technologies to implement efficient and effective solutions.

ABOUT FLORIDA POLY INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SERVICES:

The Information Technology Services (ITS) division at Florida Poly pursues the vision of enabling Florida Poly to be a leader among STEM institutions in the innovative use of information technology to transform teaching and learning, empower research, improve the student experience and student success, enable date-driven management and decision-making, and effectively conduct University operations and services. Our teams are staffed by energetic professionals who pursue service excellence, seek innovation and continuous improvement, and operate effectively in a highly collaborative environment. We are in the midst of a major transformation of IT infrastructures, architectures, and service delivery models at Florida Poly in support of the University's new five-year strategic plan. Our strategic initiatives include business systems modernization, IT service management, business process management, next-generation network services, cybersecurity automation, data ware and business intelligence, and cloud migration.

Reporting to the Vice President and CIO, ITS is organized into seven teams, including Academic Technology, IT Support Services, Networking, IT Security, Platforms and Systems Engineering, DevOps (including both data engineering and application engineering), and IT Solutions Delivery.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Integration Architecture Design
  • Design integration architecture strategies to streamline data flow and enhance system interoperability. Identify opportunities for automation, streamlining workflows, and reducing manual efforts.
  • Integration Development
  • Design and architect integration solutions that enable seamless communication and data exchange between various applications, platforms, and systems. Ensure solutions adhere to industry best practices, security standards, and scalability requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to DevOps Engineers. Encourage innovation and creativity within the Application Engineering Group, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Act as a liaison between the integration team and other teams within the organization, ensuring effective communication and coordination.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Advanced proficiency in integration tools, technologies, and protocols.

  • Strong understanding of system architecture principles and patterns, including microservices, service-oriented architecture (SOA), heavily API-based integration environments, and cloud-native architectures.

  • Proven experience as a senior integration engineer, senior integration developer, or a similar role, with a strong track record of designing and implementing integration solutions.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of industry trends and standards.

  • Proven ability to learn and master new technologies quickly.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to work closely with team members.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong attention to detail.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of integration engineering experience.

  • In lieu of a degree, any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field.

  • 5+ years of integration engineering experience.

  • Experience with cloud applications and SaaS platforms.

  • Experience with Integration Platforms as a Service (iPaaS) tools, API management, and orchestration platforms.

  • Experience in a lead role with cross-functional teams.

REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR OTHER SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS OF LAW:

  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

  • This position requires a criminal background check, which may include a Level II screening as required by Florida Statute §435.04.

  • This position is subject to federal and state privacy regulations.

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: This position is salary exempt. The normal work schedule is Monday

  • Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., however, occasional overtime (weekends and evenings) may be required. Travel between campus locations may be required.

TARGET HIRING SALARY: $90,000 - $120,000, commensurate with experience.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION TO APPLICANTS:

This role will be primarily based at the Poly South campus which is physically located on the Lakeland campus of Polk State College, but also has periodic duties on the Florida Poly main campus.

This role may include a hybrid schedule of two (2) days in the office (Wednesday required) and three (3) days remote.
