Lead Inspector

Individual will provide technical support to the Process, Maintenance and Technical Team in the inspection of fixed equipment (vessels, tanks, piping, etc) to maintain overall mechanical integrity, refinery safety, and reliability. Routine duties include: gathering equipment data and information in the field, climbing to perform visual inspections and non-destructive testing, recording data and information to assure equipment histories are current, analyze inspection findings, developing recommendations, and preparing inspection reports. Individual will perform calculations (use of statistical methods) using corrosion data to determine inspection schedules, and equipment/piping remaining life.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and mentor the Refinery's Inspectors and close familiarity with ALL unit operations, i.e. setting goals and define inspection technique.

  • Monitor, and coordinate, turnaround, shutdown, vendor surveillance, and construction activities by Contract Inspectors, third party inspectors and NDE Technicians

  • Manage the monitoring of the long-term serviceability, safety and reliability of refinery equipment through routine monitoring programs and planned internal and external inspections.

  • Assure complete and accurate records are maintained for all inspections so they can be transferred to permanent files.

  • Develop and steward the refinery equipment and piping thickness monitoring program in accordance with recognized codes and standards, such as API-510, API-570 and API-653

  • Assure all repair and construction work is independently inspected and monitored to assure that it is being performed per plan and adheres to all specifications and industry codes.

  • Develop and maintain the fixed equipment inspection procedures.

  • Monitor and report on the activities and quality of contractors in conjunction with their QA/QC representative.

  • Evaluate corrosion monitoring data, predict equipment life and adjust inspection intervals as required.

  • Assist in the planning of temporary repairs and approve the execution of such repairs.

  • Coordinate state annual boiler inspections and associated activities.

  • Assure a process is developed and followed to monitor daily welding related activities by means of inspection methods, qualification and documentation of welder certifications, welding procedure specification and procedure record and approval.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree required or equivalent related experience considered in lieu of degree.

  • Minimum of ten (10) years' experience in the inspection of fixed equipment and piping systems required.

  • Extensive working knowledge of ASME, ANSI, API & NBIC.

  • Close familiarity with advanced NDE methods such as DR, GUL, PAUT. AE etc.

CERTIFICATES

Certified API-510 Pressure Vessel Inspector, certified API-570 Piping Inspector, National Board IS Certificate, CAL OSHA Certificate of Competency CoC, certified API-653 Aboveground Storage Tank Inspector. Certified Welding Inspector and Non-Destructive Testing certificates preferred

The salary range for this position is $97,322.86-$171,999.31. The compensation range listed in this posting is in compliance with applicable state law. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills and internal peer equity will be considered in determining the selected candidate's compensation. Salaries at the time of hire are typically in the lower to middle portion of the above range in order to provide the opportunity to reflect future performance-based increases. In addition to salary, PBF offers a comprehensive and generous benefits package.
