We have an as needed job opening for a Lead Infection Preventionist to join our team at the Main Line Services.
The Lead Infection Preventionist (Lead IP) develops and implements an effective infection prevention and control program. The Lead IP is a recognized expert in a variety of specialty areas including electronic surveillance, outbreak investigations, education and consultation of healthcare providers, regulatory requirements, construction and high level disinfection and sterilization. Lead IPs will have a primary focus on designing and facilitating infection prevention and control planning activities related to the overarching IP&C mission to build high reliability of infection prevention and control practices across the MLH System. In addition, the Lead IP will serve as a role model and coach others in infection prevention and control practices, such as education program design, policy and procedure development, auditing of high level disinfection and sterilization practices, compliance with regulatory requirements, construction design and review, and program support of performance improvement activities to promote patient safety.
Lead Infection Preventionist
Perform HAI prevention activities.
Develops and implements the System Infection Prevention and Control Program in collaboration with the Director of Infection Prevention and Control of MLHS (the Director).
Actively influences healthcare professionals from a variety of disciplines to drive performance improvement and impact quality and patient safety.
Performs and supports real time event reviews, apparent and root cause analysis to identify modifiable risk factors and other infection prevention opportunities.
Serves as a member of the Infection Prevention and Control Committee/Clinical Operations Committee.
Conducts regular environmental rounding and provides just in time feedback and education to healthcare workers in the patient care environment.
Audits high level disinfection and sterilization practices across the MLH System.
Participates in system committees overseeing new product evaluation, environment of care, emergency preparedness, etc.
Participates in improvement activities designed to prevent HAIs across the MLH System.
Supports PI initiatives (from internal surveillance needs or external regulatory/accreditation requirements) and communicates system issues to the Director.
Attends the organization's quality committees, performance improvement teams and work groups as required.
Coach infection prevention and control staff and other healthcare professionals using safety behavior language to promote infection prevention and control practices.
Education and consultation with healthcare providers (HCPs).
Consults with HCPs to answer infection prevention and control questions or concerns from staff, patients, and/or families.
Develops content and conducts mandatory education as well as new employee orientation sessions, in-services and other educational sessions.
Designs education programs to target ongoing system-wide education to include signage, webinars, and course offerings.
Advises staff on appropriate isolation practices and use of personal protective equipment.
Supports Main Line Health System through identification of issues that require improvement via analysis of various quality reports as required.
Seeks additional IP&C opportunities to represent MLH at the local or national level.
Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements
Participates in preparation for surveys conducted by external reviewing bodies as required.
Develop, review, implement, and maintain infection prevention and control policies and procedures.
Facilitates multidisciplinary risk assessments to identify gaps in infection prevention and control and areas of priority.
Conducts surveillance and program validation activities.
Performs HAI validation activities for the System Infection Prevention and Control program.
Reviews microbiology and virology reports for culture results as needed for validation and team coverage.
Reviews patient charts for evidence of HAIs applies NHSN definitions to identify and report HAIs through the use of an electronic surveillance system as needed for validation and team coverage.
Uses appropriate databases to collect and submit data and generate reports for analysis in collaboration with the System's Data Analytics staff.
Leads the planning and facilitation of outbreak investigations and employee exposures in collaboration with infection prevention and control leadership, other disciplines and public health authorities.
Participates in planning and design of epidemiologic studies as needed.
Reviews construction plans and designs and completes ICRAs as needed

PRIMARY CUSTOMERS OR KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Infectious Disease Physicians, Infection Preventionists, Employees, Occupational Health, Patients, Families, Visitors, Vendors, External Agencies
Required: BSN, MT, or other similar bachelor's degree in a health-care related field, from an accredited program.
Preferred: Advanced degree in a scientifically relevant field (e.g. MPH, MS in Clinical Microbiology, MSN, etc.)
Licensure and Certification
Required: Certification in Infection Control (CIC) as offered by CBIC
APIC Fellowship eligible
Preferred: Pennsylvania Nurse Licensure as an RN, registered by American Society Clinical Pathologists as a Medical Technologist, registered Pharmacist, or having an advanced degree in a scientifically relevant field (e.g. MPH, MS in Clinical Microbiology, MSN, etc.)
