Position Summary:

Develop plans and specifications, perform analysis and provide reports on assigned tasks involving design and construction of new assets, operation and maintenance of existing assets or the optimization of assets. Technically involved in the resolution of equipment and operational problems that may include performing field investigation or inspections, performing design work, developing complex statistical models or detailed review of design computations. Ensure compliance with company and industry standards.

This position requires advanced knowledge within a functional area and is often considered an expert in the area of responsibility. Performs work without appreciable direction and completed work is reviewed from a relatively long-term perspective for desired results. Develops technical solutions to highly complex or interrelated problems. Requires the ability to interpret and adapt theory and concepts into workable solutions. Leads and mentors less experienced professionals.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage multiple medium-sized projects or a reasonable number of large and significantly complex projects.

  • Develop and maintain project budgets, schedules and associated resources for large and significantly complex projects.

  • Develop and maintain expertise in the application of engineering principles; remain current on changes in industry best practices.

  • Serve as a project or case manager in the development, facilitation, and implementation of metrics, processes and procedures.

  • Review and critique proposed changes to engineering standards, policies and guidelines.

  • Prepare engineering analysis for large and significantly complex projects to include: preliminary design, engineering calculations, life cycle cost and equipment selection.

  • Create complex simulations and models; distill results in easily understood reports and summaries.

  • Assure design specifications conform to the latest national and local codes, rules and regulations, and generally accepted good engineering practices.

  • Function as a quality inspector or defines quality requirements on engineering designs and projects.

  • Conduct surveys to gather field data.

  • Compile, manipulate, analyze and interpret data taken from surveys or other sources; draw conclusions and identify trends.

  • Prepare, interpret and evaluate complex schematics, drawings, layouts and other visual aids; ensure design and documentation meets compliance codes.

  • Solve problems and develop solutions that call for original approach based on thorough and comprehensive research and technical expertise.

  • Develop standard operating procedures and methods for the safe and reliable operations and maintenance of engineered systems and works requiring engineering supervision.

  • Assist in the identification, development, assignment and prioritization of projects.

  • Improve and enhance planning techniques and standards through the application of subject matter expertise and knowledge.

  • Support company safety programs and initiatives by following EHS and Operations procedures and adhering to established design standards.

  • Support the preparation of annual capital and O&M Budgets. Monitor budget and reports on variances.

  • Act as a technical resource for engineers with less experience, may direct technically complex projects.

  • Lead less experienced engineers or a team of engineers in project completion.

  • Support company safety programs and initiatives by following EHS and Operations procedures and adhering to established design standards.

  • Act in a liaison capacity with other departments, divisions and organizations.

  • Ensure materials and material specifications meet company standards and industry codes for oil and gas industry.

  • May act as a representative of the company when communicating with regulatory bodies and government agencies.

  • Provide technical presentations to regulatory officials, appointed boards/commissions, the public and staff.

Specialization:

  • Ability to autonomously perform complex hydraulic evaluations including: steady state, transient, optimization activities, and production decline, as applicable to assigned modeling focus, within DNV GL's Synergi software or other industry equivalent tool(s).

  • Perform steady state tuning exercises of fully integrated complex systems.

  • Build standard reciprocating compressor, pump and regulator facilities based on actual information.

  • Perform drag reducing agent (DRA) analysis on crude systems.

  • Perform steady state short term (< 4 years) forecast evaluations of complex integrated systems.

  • utilize process variable profiling to conduct time stepped steady state evaluations.

  • write new modeling standards and review updated standards.

  • perform transient analysis or steady state long term (5+ years) forecast evaluations of complex integrated systems.

  • perform gas blending analysis using the gas tracing function within synergi.

  • ability to effectively use external pressure and flow boundary logic.

  • provide analysis using fuel and / or market optimization modules.

  • utilize scripts within synergi to automate basic control functions within a model.

  • ability to perform high-level capital cost estimates in order to narrow the number of potential solutions to be evaluated for a given project.

  • ability to perform sensitivity analysis, conduct statistical analysis and tailor the results to a broad audience of varying professional backgrounds.

  • provide reporting to senior management and can serve as an sme when representing the company with third parties or government agencies.

minimum education & experience:

  • bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology.
  • eight (8) years' directly related experience.
  • valid state driver's license.
  • professional engineer (pe) license preferred.
