Under the general supervision of the Manager of Physical Plant, the HVAC Technician provides a broad scope of services to install, maintain, and repair the HVAC systems for the entire college campus including dorms, office buildings, and classroom buildings.
Essential Functions:
Removes old HVAC systems
Installs new HVAC systems
Performs routine maintenance of HVAC systems: cleans coils, checks capacitors, blow out drains, grease pulleys, clean blower wheels, regularly change filter, and check water levels
Orders HVAC units and supplies needed to install, repair, and maintain equipment
Stocks shelves in Inventory room with HVAC supplies, plumbing, etc. as needed
Meets local and appropriate HVAC codes
Meets with contractors to determine scope of job and coordinate plans for repair or replacement
Removes old HVAC equipment so new systems can be installed
Runs pipe and duct systems through buildings; repair and replace exhaust fans
Excavates irrigation lines and assists in repairs; assists with plumbing repairs and stopped up drains as needed
Reads and interprets wiring diagrams and HVAC installation instructions
Understands refrigeration cycles and maintains and repairs walk-in freezers and refrigerators
Interprets various technical data, such as pressure and temperature
Diagnosis some electrical issues as needed
Assists with carpentry repairs such as window repairs
Works on roof repairs as necessary
Repairs washers and dryers as needed
Analyze issues for other maintenance teams to help prepare for project fix
Serves as After Hours On-Call technician in weekly rotation with other maintenance workers
Trains student workers and also trains co-workers to have cross-training of employees
Communicates with students, faculty and staff in a professional manner
Responsible for driving college-owned service vehicle following safe driving practices
Responsible to request repairs and service on vehicle as needed
Performs other duties as assigned by Manager of Physical Plant
Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED
HVAC training certificate and 2 years' experience
Must be able to meet deadlines, work skillfully under pressure, solve problems, make decisions, and be a team player.
Requires full range of body motion, including reaching, stooping, kneeling, climbing and walking. Must be able to lift and carry items weighing 75 lbs.
Requires ability to operate motor vehicles with current driver's license.
Must be able to follow a work schedule and complete assigned tasks in time allotted.
Must be able to come in after hours and on weekends for emergency calls
