Hawker Pacific Aerospace, Sun Valley, CA is seeking a motivated Lead Honing Machinist to support its Bushings Department. The shop Lead will will assist the Department Manager in performing some supervisory functions such as providing basic direction, assistance, and work instruction to workers within the department. A Shop Lead may also engage in the same production work as the workers they supervise which is described in a separate job description.

A Shop Lead may be assigned to one or more departments depending upon the company needs at the time.

Essential Duties:

This individual has the responsibility and authority to carry out assigned task. May be assigned some or all duties indicated below depending on job progression level.
1.* Coordinates a variety of assigned projects and activities for the purpose of delivering services on compliance with established guidelines.

2.* Maintains a variety of manual and electronic files and/or records for the purpose of providing up-to-date reference and complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.

3.* Manages the day to day operation of the Shop for the purpose of supervising the diagnosing and repair of all landing gear.

4.* Prepares a variety of reports and documents for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written support and/or conveying information.

5.* Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns for the purpose of taking appropriate action to resolve immediate safety issues and maintaining a functioning educational environment.

6.* Supervises assigned staff (I.e. employee concerns/problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, performance appraisals, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring work assignments are complete and within department objectives.

7.* Engages his or her team to drive a continuous improvement culture by utilizing systems relentlessly attack and eliminate waste, overburden and variability in manufacturing processes.

8.* Manages and monitors production flow and maintains time and production records.

9.* Delivers results through continuous process improvements; recognizes problems as opportunities for improvement.

10.* Involves team in decisions, problem solving and continuous improvement activities.

11.* Identify gaps between benchmark performance and average shift performance, facilitate continuous improvements with team, and allocate responsibilities for implementing improvement plans.

12.* Understands the manufacturing process and has the technical knowledge to ensure product quality.

13.* Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of production.

14.* Ensures the availability of materials needed to complete production requirements.

15.* Actively collaborates with plant leadership and team to establish clear standard work instructions and audits.

16.* Responsibility to work with LEAN Manufacturing principles.

17.* Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

The Lead Honing Machinist will also be responsible for setting up, making required adjustments, and overall machining operations of small and large aircraft parts where machining locations must be maintained to exact tolerances and finish specifications, before and after installing bushings and shims on the parts.

The Honing Machinist may be assigned to one or more departments depending upon the company needs at the time.

Essential Duties:

This individual has the responsibility and authority to carry out assigned task. May be assigned some or all duties indicated below depending on job progression level.
1.* Set up ones personal work area using tooling. Mount the work piece as required using necessary equipment.

2.* Read and understand blueprints and sectional drawings.

3.* Ensure that all documentation for work performed is complete and legible.

4.* Use a wide variety of precision measuring equipment to inspect the completed work.

5.* Install large and small bushings in aircraft components, using hoist and hydraulic presses.

6.* Hone and ream bores to size and maintain tolerances given.

7.* Deburr all sharp edges from bushings installed.

8* Responsibility to work with LEAN Manufacturing principles.

9.* Performs other duties as required by business needs.

Education:* High School Diploma or equivalent. Bachelors preferred.

Certification/Licensure: Repairmans License, A&P Certification, and/or other certifications as required by primary job description (Preferred).

Experience: Job related experience (minimum of 3-5 years) with increasing levels of responsibility is required.

This position may require use of information which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), or both. U.S.

Position Summary for Machinist: Operates computer numerical control machines and conventional machines to fabricate parts. Essential Duties and Responsibilities for Machinist: * Sets-up and operates a production machine in accordance with established procedures and guidelines. * Perform typical machine shop operations, manual and CNC * Assists with prototype work, deburr and other machining tasks * Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to management or designee. * Performs Setups on manual lathes/mills and CNC lathes/mills * Maintain work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follows prescribed safety procedures. * Must be able to perform, but not limited to, the following tasks: milling, turning, drilling, tapping, de-burring, sawing and sanding. * Perform inspection of machined products (including documentation of results). * Complete and maintain paperwork for parts. * Assist in other work areas, including but not limited to, performing surface and center- less grinds drill and tap and sand blasting. Required Skills for Machinist: * Must have working command of the English language, and be able to communicate orally and in writing (basic oral instructions, simple written memos and instructions). * Must be able to read and interpret drawings, follow work travelers, use simple math to perform basic calculations, and use basic inspection hand held measuring tools.
