Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1.Landscaping Maintenance and Improvement (65%)
Maintain the property's exterior landscape and overall appearance in a healthy and aesthetically pleasing condition which corresponds to the desires of the owners including hardscape, soft-scape and fountain features.
Participates in and directs the planting, pruning, grooming and maintaining of all ornamental trees, shrubs, flowers, lawns, Vegetable garden and softscape features per company directive.
Identify and solve landscape pest and diseases, soil amendment issues using sustainable / organic methods
Uses creative ability to take landscape development and improvement projects from concept to completion as specified by the owner and or creative and visual team
Performs irrigation repairs and improvements
Purchases relevant supplies and materials
Develops and / or manages vegetable gardening, herbs, and perennials
Responsible for safe use and maintenance of a range of powered Landscape maintenance equipment incl. tractor and backhoe
2.Leadership / Management (25%)
Schedule, assign and oversee work flow for contracted landscapers/gardeners
Manage day to day safety, quality, productivity and cost of all the landscaped areas and activities of the contracted landscaping team.
Manage to a budget and track costs
This role is responsible for the quality of the finished project or landscape.
May be required to assist with special projects or work special events as maintenance support, as needed
Supervisory Responsibilities / Team Lead:
Responsible for training and mentoring the workforce. This includes training in the areas of plants, grasses, seeds, fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides. They must ensure the proper application of all landscape chemicals.
High school education, and a minimum of 3-5 years of professional / commercial landscape and horticulture experience and a desire to learn new methods and processes in the care and management of landscapes and gardens.
Experience and desire to work with sustainable horticultural practices.
Experience managing landscape in a commercial hospitality center a plus.
Experience with vegetable gardening, herbs, and perennials
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Ability to self-manage, work independently and in a team environment.
Ability to maintain positive work atmosphere by communicating effectively with customers, management, peers, and subordinates.
Possess understanding and knowledge of sustainable and organic pest management and soil amendment practices.
Ability to apply fertilizers, pesticides and other types of chemicals to control hazardous insects, weeds and unwanted plants, including PPE associated with safe application requirements
Creative ability to visualize an outcome, and take improvement projects from concept to completion
Must have leadership, communication and delegation skills as well as excellent time management skills.
Ability to perform irrigation repairs
Bilingual English/Spanish a plus
Willingness to learn and apply new skills as needed for the required work
Have good listening skills and able to follow written and/or verbal directions
Possess good work ethics and attitude and able to arrive to work on time as scheduled

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, landscape work is highly labor intensive. It requires using hand-held earthmoving equipment as well as heavy machinery. The tools include shovels, hoes, post hole diggers, rakes and many other hand-held tools. The Lead Groundskeeper works with mulch, dirt, sod, plants, shrubs, water, sand, rocks and many other natural types of materials. This work is always outside where the team lead is exposed to the elements. This work is dirty and physically demanding.
