Requirements / Qualifications

High School graduation or equivalent and two years of experience in gardening or grounds maintenance work. Supervisory experience is desirable. One year of experience as a Groundskeeper II with the Monrovia Unified School District may be substituted for the experience requirement.

A valid Class C California Driver License. A resume and a DMV driving report is required.

Must obtain within 90 days of employment a CAL/OSHA Certificate for the operation of a forklift and a CAL/OSHA Certificate for the use of herbicides and pesticides; thereafter must maintain certificate. The District shall provide training.

This recruitment will be used to fill one (1) full-time position working 8 hours per day, 12 months per year. Under the direction of the Director of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation, leads and participates in the maintenance program for the grounds and landscaped areas of the District; plans and implements training programs for grounds personnel; and performs related duties as assigned. Assists the Director of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation in coordinating the maintenance program for the grounds and landscaped areas of the District; assigns duties to grounds crew; inspects work in progress and upon completion; identifies and schedules new planting, routine grounds care and watering needs; inspects grounds for needed maintenance; determines the need for spraying, fertilizing and pruning; trains grounds personnel; participates in the planting and care of plants, shrubs, hedges, trees, flowers, and lawns; participates in the installation and repair of sprinkler systems; oversees pest and weed control; requisitions supplies; prepares reports of work completed and materials expended; confers with the Director of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation on preparing cost estimates for grounds projects and setting of priorities for grounds maintenance; performs minor maintenance on grounds tools and equipment; and drives a District truck.
