Job Summary

The Continuous Improvement (CI) Leads, reporting to CI Manager, are highly competent as a process owners and are able to use a variety of leadership and project management skills, in order to ensure performance and process development focused on improvements in Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and People (SQDC/P). The person in this position is responsible for using Lean principles to drive CI initiatives and foster a CI culture of lean thinkers rooted in daily problem solving. This role is involved in planning, scheduling, and implementing CI activities on the production floor of a manufacturing facility. In addition to promoting an 'everyone, everyday' employee empowered and inclusive mindset of responsibility and accountability.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Foster and drive positive Continuous Improvement culture
  • Identifying opportunities for process improvement, waste removal, and cost reduction. Responsible to deliver the cost savings target for the sites. (Ex. Develop and present ROI projects)
  • Planning, facilitating, and executing continuous improvement events using Lean tools and principles.
  • Teaching, leading, and coaching cross-functional teams on Lean tools, principles, and methodology
  • Working to continuously improve processes both on the production floor as well as transactional by collaborating with multiple functions as needed.
  • Clearly defining program objectives and scope
  • Evaluating and prioritizing potential improvements based on gains and required effort
  • Securing employee commitment for proactive change management
  • Establishing a clear and well-articulated implementation plan
  • Establishing criteria for the project's success and preparing a sound statement of constraints/limiting factors
  • Resolving technical problems such as formulation, equipment, product, interpretation of regulations, and resource availability through application of lean tools/principles/methods, such as root cause analysis
  • Conducting detailed analysis of the current situation that accurately describes the issues
  • Specifying deliverables, outcome indicators, and performance-measured indicators
  • Accurately analyzing options including impact and feasibility
  • Specifying obstacles and ways to overcome them through continuous improvement
  • Regularly monitoring the implementation of solutions to achieve objectives and expected benefits
  • Mapping out in detail the desired situation
  • Develop, design, and document processes that help improve safety, quality, Delivery, Cost, and People
  • Responsible for benchmarking and best practice sharing through driving, supporting, and or implementing Standard Work

Decision Making/Problem Solving

Able to use DMAIC process to define Root cause. Comprehend difference between Root Cause and a Symptom. Capable of developing an appropriate countermeasure for a sustainable permanent corrective action.

Education Requirements

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent
  • Preferred training/certification- Candidates with lean or CI training are a plus
  • Preferred 2+ years of college

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years manufacturing experience

Minimum Skills / Other Experiences

  • English Proficient (Oral and Written)
  • Effective communication (written and verbal) Must have ability to communicate throughout all levels of the organization including presentations and classroom sessions
  • Ability to influence without authority. Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate others
  • Ability to lead cross functional teams and work with people across all levels of the organization
  • Passion for Continuous Improvement
  • Predisposition to teach leaders a zero defect mentality
  • Ability to weigh and manage priorities
  • Skilled at synthesis and analysis.
  • Promote training, education, empowerment, teamwork
  • Broad understanding of manufacturing concepts

Desired Skills (A plus, but not required)

  • General knowledge of lean manufacturing principles
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish
  • Previous leadership experience
  • Experience in project management
  • TPM Implementation Knowledge
  • VSM Knowledge
  • Demonstratable understanding of 6S
