The Opportunity

WSDOT is currently seeking to fill an Equipment Technician Lead for in our South Central Region. Our region TEF supports the mission of WSDOT by keeping the agency's equipment fleet in a safe and serviceable reliable condition and provides well maintained vehicles and equipment to customers who in turn may accomplish their services to the public in a safe, efficient, timely, and cost-effective manner.

Under the supervision of the Equipment Technician Supervisor in the South Central Region TEF organization, this position is responsible for performing and leading mechanics and fabricators in journey-level inspecting, diagnosing, servicing, making major and minor mechanical repair, performing preventative maintenance, and welding and fabricating on all types of small, large, and heavy equipment used in highway maintenance and engineering, as well as on-site back up power generation.

What to Expect

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, you will:

  • Plan, schedule, and direct operations, maintenance, and repair activities.

  • Assign duties to Equipment Technicians.

  • Instruct employees in operation, servicing, and maintenance of motorized equipment. Evaluate workload status and maintenance delays.

  • Coordinate equipment compliance, preparation, repair, and disposal.

  • Ensure quality and expertise in equipment repair operations.

  • Identify, prepare, and/or deliver training presentations.

  • Prepare project estimates for all Labor, Equipment, Materials, Other (LEMO) costs.

  • Assist in the investigation of employee personal injury and equipment damage.

  • Report all injuries and accidents in computerized system (SIIRS).

  • Attend and may lead monthly organization safety meetings.

  • Actively participate in and lead the development and implementation of Pre-Activity Safety Plans (PASP).

Qualifications

To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:

  • Possession of a Class B CDL with N endorsement to operate vehicles in Washington State or obtain within twelve (12) months of hire.

  • Two (2) Years of experience as a journey-level mechanic repairing light and heavy equipment.

  • Obtain and maintain valid First Aid/CPR Certification within six (6) months of hire.

  • Experience with operating various Microsoft Office applications such as word, excel, PowerPoint and email.

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:

  • Graduation from a technical school or completion of an apprentice program specializing in automotive, heavy equipment repair, or on-site/back up power generation systems.

  • Electrical Generating Systems Association (EGSA) certification in on-site power generation.

  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications in Automotive or Heavy Truck repair.

  • Fabrication and welding experience and/or training certificate.

  • Experience with hydraulic systems.

  • Experience operating shop tools such as welders, drill presses, grinders, presses, hoists, air tools, and jacks.
