Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, has an immediate opening for a Lead Fleet Engineer at our Corporate Headquarters in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
The Lead Fleet Engineer is responsible for a broad range of support for the North American Fleet including providing technical direction and project management for new and existing assets. In addition, the Lead Fleet Engineer is also instrumental in developing the strategic approach to product development and standardization of equipment/components to meet business requirements for safety, efficiency, and reliability through value engineering, benchmarking and leveraging supplier partnerships.
Nature and Scope:
The mission of Fleet Engineering is to provide cost effective and timely support to Distribution, Maintenance, Asset Management and the Business. This team strives to deliver EH&S excellence, productivity, standardization, and reliability for transport equipment. The position emphasizes technical and leadership skills with the ability to apply a broad knowledge of engineering and manufacturing experience.
Leading the fleet engineering team and managing workload and performance to assure projects, rehab/repairs and engineering support are done in the most efficient manner.
Creating business value by delivering results with a sense of urgency.
Developing and maintaining transport equipment specifications, schematics and BOMs.
Working with the fleet maintenance community to monitor and improve preventative maintenance practices.
Executing projects for completion on time, within budget and assuring quality control.
Developing and maintaining long-term relationships with suppliers, vendors, and contractors to minimize overall costs.
Developing and improving procedures to promote safe and efficient work processes and designs.
Ensuring compliance with DOT, Transport Canada, OSHA and Air Products policies and procedures.
Owning the management of change process for trailers and microbulk trucks.
Participating in transportation industry committees including Compressed Gas Association (CGA), Canadian Standards Association (CSA), Transport Canada (TC) and others affiliated with the design of transportation equipment.
Qualifying and periodically auditing vendors to ensure quality control.
Supporting incident investigations and conducting failure analysis to identify root causes and corrective actions.
Participating in the Global Fleet Engineering community to share and replicate best practices.
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
Minimum of ten (10) years of fleet engineering, pressure vessel, or manufacturing experience.
Excellent project management and communication skills.
Positive attitude, courage and ability to manage change
Demonstrated ability to build a team and willingness and enthusiasm to mentor
Ability to influence business area, operations & manufacturing in decision making process
Knowledge of fabrication techniques and procedures, e.g., welding, NDT, pressure testing, etc.
An understanding of regulations and laws pertaining to over the road transport equipment
Experience with and knowledge of Environmental, Health and Safety Standards with a demonstrated commitment to Safety.
Ability to travel up to 50%.
