The position will support the Depart of Defense (DoD) in the acquisition, operation and/or sustainment of optical fiber based transport. Key functions include leadership of technical teams, analysis of alternatives, thought leadership on the benefits and costs of acquisition options (lease vs buy), and updating the DISA strategy for use of optic fiber transport.
BS Degree in a Communications Engineering related discipline and 8-10 years of experience as either researcher or designer/engineer in fiber-optic cable systems including domain knowledge in two or more of the following areas:
Experience in fiber-optic cable systems that may include campus, regional, ultra-long haul, transoceanic, and/or festoon designs. Experience may include system design, procurement/acquisition, evaluation (to include vendor supply chain analysis), installation, and testing of, high-speed (100+ Gbps).
Experience in the operations, administration, maintenance, provisioning, and general lifecycle sustainment of global fiber optic cable systems.
Experience with fiber optic transport subsystems and effects, such as erbium-doped fiber amplifiers, Raman amplification, electronic dispersion compensation, polarization, wavelength selective switches, reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexers, optical multiplexer/demultiplexers, forward error correction, advanced bandwidth efficient modulation schemes (e.g. QPSK) and transceiver architectures.
Experience with fiber-optic cable system specific engineering artifact creation; including system concepts of operations, requirements, engineering drawings, test plans, and test reports.
Hands-on laboratory and/or deployment experience with the components, subsystems, effects, techniques, and processes mentioned above.
Experience in the use and operations of network and element management systems, system performance metrics, and service level agreements.
Candidate must possess an active TS/SCI clearance.
Master's or Doctorate Degree in a Communications Engineering related discipline
10 to 15 years of experience and domain knowledge in four or more of the above areas
