LEAD EXTENDED STUDENT SERVICES ASSISTANTBASIC FUNCTION:Under the direction of the Extended Student Services Supervisor, assist in the overall activities of school-aged children in an Extended Student Services (ESS) program; assist in planning and designing activities; maintain records and files; assist in the training and supervision of aides and student workers.REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:Assist the ESS Supervisor in daily activities; organize and prepare a positive learning environment; prepare materials and supplies; lead and supervise students in games in a classroom or playground environment. EMaintain a safe and secure environment for students; provide student behavior management charts and programs; develop positive behavior with incentives and reinforcements.

EParticipate in the hiring, training, and supervision of regular and student aides; contact substitutes; establish and maintain employee records for personnel and payroll. EPrepare registration packets; maintain files and records including student enrollment, family accounting ledgers and receipts; collect registration and tuition fees; assist in collection of delinquent accounts; provide security for monies received. EAdminister first aid and follow necessary emergency procedures; verify medication authorization; monitor medical conditions; identify and report safety hazards on site.

EAssure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and procedures; assist in maintaining a clean and orderly environment. EPerform a variety of clerical duties including typing, duplicating, recording attendance and laminating materials. EAssist with budget planning including purchasing and receiving supplies; maintain inventory control of food, supplies and equipment.

ECommunicate with current and prospective parents and various organizations to explain the ESS program; coordinate program activities with District personnel as needed; contact guest speakers; organize field trips; provide tours for visitors. EParticipate in meetings and in-service training programs as assigned. EOperate a variety of office equipment including a computer and assigned software; drive a vehicle to conduct work. EPerform related duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:KNOWLEDGE OF:Child development principles and practices.Safe practices in classroom activities.Classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct.Maintaining a safe, clean and orderly environment.Modern office practices, procedures and equipment.Basic record-keeping techniques.Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.Oral and written communication skills.Policies and procedures of assigned program and activities.Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.Health and safety regulations.ABILITY TO:Assist the ESS Supervisor with supervision and related activities of the assigned center.Make arithmetic calculations quickly and accurately.Understand and follow oral and written instructions.Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.Complete work with many interruptions.Oversee and discipline students according to approved policies and procedures.Operate standard office equipment including computer and assigned software.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:passage of the PUSD examination for this classificationor48 college/university semester units or equivalent quarter units anda minimum of 6 units of early childhood development or related fieldone year experience working in a preschool or child care programLICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:Valid California driver's license.Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate issued by an authorized agency.WORKING CONDITIONS:ENVIRONMENT:Classroom and playground environment.Driving a vehicle to conduct work.Constant interruptions.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time.Kneeling, crouching or bending at the waist to assist students.Seeing to read a variety of materials and to observe students.Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone.Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office equipment.Lifting moderately heavy objects.HAZARDS:Contact with blood or other body fluids.
