Overview

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Under the general supervision of the Manager or designee, the Lead Automated Equipment Technician install, repairs, modifies and maintains a variety of equipment and electro-mechanical systems used throughout the Institution such as reverse osmosis systems (RO), laboratory glass washers, sterilizers, kitchen equipment, power operated doors including revolving doors, and other electronic door systems.

Responsibilities

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the performance of preventative and corrective maintenance including inspection, testing, and repairs on all equipment systems including RO's, sterilizers, glasswashers, power operated electrical doors, washing and drying equipment, totes, lifts, various switches, assisting with alarm systems, and a multitude of kitchen and animal quarters equipment. • Adheres to preventative maintenance checkpoints and due dates.• Work from technical manuals, drawings, sketches, service manuals, and similar documents.• Responsible for training staff members in the proper operation of electronic equipment.• Prepare cost estimates for work request and coordinate purchasing of supplies and materials with vendors and Facilities Accounting Staff.• Perform installations of equipment systems and components as directed.• Enforce and maintain proper safety measures.• Use of delicate measuring devices.• Must be able to use computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for work assignments and or performing tasks and recording time and work completion. • Maintain spare parts inventory and anticipates future needs. • Researching and ordering of parts. • Responsible for maintaining all warranty information.• Attending all required training. • Interface with other departments to assure work is completed with the least possible disruption to UMass Chan. • Conform to all codes, rules, regulations, and safety standards associated with the trade.• In conjunction with the supervisor, develop work schedule and assign tasks to individual trade people to complete work.• Instruct staff members on best practices for repairs and proper operation of various equipment.• Supervise all trades people assigned to specific projects, reviewing performance for effectiveness and conformance with policies, procedures, rules and regulations.• Schedules and monitors contractors in performance of their assigned task.• While in the performance of routine duties, may be required, as needed to perform all work associated with all maintenance trades of an equal or lower graded classification, where the work does not require a specific license. This includes work at all off-site locations.• Ensure materials and equipment requirements are at site to complete work in an efficient manner.• Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:• Associate degree or Trade School diploma in Electronics or equivalent experience• Experience with Microprocessors and PLC boards• 5 years' experience working on automated equipment systems. • Demonstrated working knowledge of NFPA Life Safety, ANSI, and other applicable codes and standards• Demonstrated ability to read and interpret drawings, sketches, blueprints, and schematics. • Ability to operate all test equipment associated with the maintenance of electronic equipment• Effective communication skills- verbal and written • Proficient in Microsoft Office• Valid drivers license • Thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions particular to the trade• Ability to travel to off-site locations

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:• Current Massachusetts Electrical License

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Under the general supervision of the Manager or designee

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Exercises direct supervision over technical staff assigned to the equipment section of the Department, assures conformance with codes, rules, regulations, and safety hazards

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

May perform work in all Medical Center facilities and is subject to possible exposure to chemicals, gases, electrical shock; may work in confined spaces on ladders. Ability to perform physically arduous tasks; normal dexterity, visual acuity, ability to lift up to 50 lbs., ability to climb and work from ladders and scaffolding, and work in confined areas
