Position Overview:

This role is responsible for systems engineering as a member of a multidisciplinary new product development team. This position will understand and define customer needs; product functionality and performance requirements; product architecture, constraints and trade-offs; design and interface requirements, technical risks of new products being developed. You will provide leadership to the engineering team members on the overall design of the final product while determining what verification is required, including the amount of data required and the methodology for collecting and analyzing the data.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Extract customer needs and translate into product functional and performance requirements through collaboration with cross functional Marketing, Clinical and User Experience teams

  • Lead the technical engineering team through the overall design and development of the product

  • Maintain product requirements throughout project

  • Develop system architecture for the products, based on technology and platform strategies

  • Objectively and holistically communicate trade-offs and design options

  • Document the flow of data through a system

  • Define subassembly interfaces and allocate subassembly requirements to design teams

  • Conduct impact analysis for design changes and implement necessary actions

  • Identify technical problems and provide innovative and creative solutions

  • Contribute to fault tree analysis and design FMEAs

  • Ensure requirements are testable and can be verified and validated

  • Support root cause identification, corrective actions and re-verification/validation of identified product defects

Required Background:

  • Bachelor's Degree (Mechanical, Electrical, Software Engineering or comparable technical discipline)

  • 10 years of engineering experience

  • 5 years of experience leading technical teams

  • Demonstrated experience translating customer needs into design requirements and architecture

  • Demonstrated experience working on new product development projects; experience with regulated industries and FDA Design Controls is preferred

  • Demonstrated experience making project tradeoff decisions due to constraints and drive action to decisions

  • Strong organizational and communication skills

  • Proficient problem-solving skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with others in a team environment

  • Working knowledge of systems engineering methodologies

Responsible for supporting several projects through software testing of medical devices and host applications. Partner with development engineers, quality engineers and other Test Team members to establish and execute functional, performance and robustness testing of medical devices and medical software applications. Develop protocols from requirements/design documentation and execute the protocols against established baselines. Set up test environments. Drive continuous improvement initiatives in support of departmental, site and corporate objectives for Reliability, Quality, Productivity, and Cost performance. Serve as a member of Software Test Team with responsibility for all software testing of products developed by R&D. Participate in the development of test cases. Install software and set up networks and other hardware, simulators, etc. needed for testing. Execute test protocols against Welch Allyn medical devices and software. Perform ad hoc testing of Welch Allyn medical devices and applications. Participate in cross functional review of product software design and requirements for correctness, completeness, and testability. Work on continuous improvement initiatives for testing processes and procedures. Work with R&D engineers to communicate anomalies/issues. Follow established quality processes and procedures. Must possess a Bachelor's Degree, or foreign equivalent in Electronic Engineering, or a relevant Engineering discipline and 4 years of experience in the job offered or related. Must also possess experience with (i) basic computer network technology and components: such as creating and managing Network Time Protocol (NTP) Servers, Windows Active Directory servers across networks and LDAP servers for user authentication on computer networks; (ii) testing and assuring quality of medical devices and medical software applications within an FDA-compliant (regulated) product development quality system; (iii) Create and manage test plans, provide estimates of time and scope; (iv) write software test programs in C# using Microsoft Visual Studio; (v) set up and execute medical device cycle testing to verify consistent device performance within established tolerances; (vi) set up and execute highly accelerated stress screen (HASS) test systems to verify device design robustness to established hardware requirements; and (vii) develop and execute tests of Microsoft SQL databases used within a medical device application to manage patient data.
