Lead Engineer is responsible for the development, expansion, planning, design, maintenance and operation of the system and its equipment to meet the mission and objectives of the organization. In addition, this position coordinates the evaluation of system failures, and the appropriate resolutions, in order to provide support to operations on unplanned maintenance. Responsible for ensuring that the Eversource gas distribution systems are designed to high quality standards that provide customers with safe, reliable, competitively priced and environmentally sound gas service. This position shares accountability with peers in the strategy, development, and design of the organization's Life Cycle Plan, a comprehensive long-term plan for the gas distribution system. Responsible for supervising, assigning, prioritizing and directing the work performed by other Engineers and staff.
Essential Functions:
Supervises, coaches, and develops engineers; approves time and conducts performance reviews. Assigns, prioritizes and directs work performed by at least 2 FTE Engineers.
Develops tactical plans and implements strategic plans for the group to ensure that the Company is reducing risk, improving the condition of assigned assets, and in full compliance with state and federal energy and pipeline legislation and regulations.
Drives changes in philosophy, design approach or business practices with regards to the risk management of assets.
Analyzes, tracks and reports on department goals and other metrics as needed.
Analyzes data and develops reports and innovative solutions regarding projects and risk reduction.
Tracks and analyzes engineering and project costs and risk profiles to improve risk management process.
May provide direction and guidance to employees working on the various programs associated with assets; serves as program technical leader for assigned projects.
Coordinates with and serves as technical lead for various risk and safety related groups within Eversource, e.g., Enterprise Risk Management, Pipeline Safety Management System.
Represents the Company's interests at industry caucuses at state, regional and national levels in the development of rules and regulations, rates and tariffs, etc.
Provides regulatory and legislative support, including answering interrogatories, and witness testimony as required.
Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:
Technical Knowledge/Skill:
Demonstrated problem-solving skills and attention-to-detail.
Working knowledge of standard office computer software (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
Education:
Experience:
Ten years in the technical, operational, or engineering aspects of the gas distribution industry.
Supervisory experience preferred.

Working Conditions:
Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
Must be available to travel between MA/CT as necessary.
Work is performed primarily in an office environment which requires sitting, standing, walking and climbing stairs are involved. Job can require traveling to operating districts and companies within and outside the state.
Position may require occasional to significant travel by car. A valid driver's license is required.
Problem Solving & Complexity:
Work includes calculating, comparing, technical writing, editing, planning, evaluating, interpreting, organizing, consulting, analyzing, designing, documenting, specifying, coordinating, implementing and presenting. This role works in an environment that often requires the performance of multiple simultaneous activities, where deadlines need to be met and work is performed under pressure while involving significant business commitments and results.
