  • The Vehicle Material Cost Specialist is responsible to create, analyze and validate component material cost and targets.

  • The Vehicle Material Cost Specialist will be responsible for generating ground-up material cost estimates prior to start of production.

  • This role involves a high level of independent judgment, initiative, creativity, and the management of multiple estimates that focus specifically on identifying cost reductions.

  • The Vehicle Material Cost Specialist will have exposure to the next generation of automotive transportation all while working with the leading edge automotive technologies.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • The candidate should be able to analyze and understand large amount of data.

  • Comprehend manufacturing and process differences in all regions

  • Partner with client's purchasing team during supplier re-negotiations

  • Occasional domestic travel to supplier facilities for enhanced costing collaboration

Required Skills:

  • Experienced in the financial evaluation of technical concepts and comprehensive understanding of production processes

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments with a high degree of autonomy and accountability for results

  • Ability to lead change and resolve conflicts

  • Able to assimilate a large amount of cost data, condense this data for vehicle level reporting

  • Analytical ability where problems are unusual or difficult

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills required to build relationships with global team members

  • Demonstrated ability in use of Microsoft Office software, proficient in excel


  • At least 3 years' relevant experience, or related field

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Engineering or related field

  • Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) - preferred

Experience with any of the following:

  • Development of supplier component quotes to OEM's

  • Stamping, Extrusion, Castings and Roll Form

  • Automotive Subsystem and Component Assembly

  • Electronic Modules

This group is responsible for vehicle architecture, vehicle packaging, and initial systems and component engineering design. In addition, the team resolves packaging and adaptation issues as the vehicles move toward production. The candidates' responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, establishing physical and functional integration of vehicles and systems during the program planning phase (concept to program approval), translating strategic and functional objectives into technical requirements, creating and analyzing alternative design concepts, packaging and integrating systems and components and benchmarking of competitive vehicles. Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in Engineering, as accredited by ABET * 5 years of total work experience; with minimum of 2 years applying expertise in BODY/BIW design and development * Thorough understanding of federal regulations, 3rd party metrics, BODY performance metrics, package tradeoffs and structural optimizations * Strong understanding of CAE, impact, durability and NVH analysis relating to body, exterior and closures applications * Familiarity with many metals including steel, aluminum, magnesium and titanium; and many manufacturing and assembly processes * Release experience in body, exterior, closures, lighting Detroit Engineered Products Inc.
