Lead Electronic Hardware Engineer

Job Description:

Allegion is seeking a highly motivated Lead Electronics Hardware Engineer capable of working collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment. The candidate will be expected to lead new product development hardware designs for all project phases. Additionally, the candidate will supervise, coach, and/or mentor hardware engineering team members and increase the teams overall electrical bench strength in the best practices of design. The candidate selected will need to be an organized self-starter comfortable and effective at working in a fast-paced, global design culture.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Highly motivated with excellent knowledge in low power embedded electronic analog and digital circuit design

  • Must have excellent knowledge in designing embedded system based on Microcontroller/ Microprocessor based systems and associated subsystems such as the power supply, I/O interfaces, displays and communications modules.

  • Capable of providing day to day priorities, direction and oversight to other hardware engineers while leading them in electrical engineering best practices in a motivational and engaging manner

  • Capable of effectively working with all engineering disciplines in a team environment with good understanding of cross functional design processes (high focus on mechanical and firmware)

  • Ability to develop hardware design concepts and architectures for electronic systems

  • Proficiency in engineering computer tools used for schematic capture (Altium Designer is a plus), ECAD design, simulation, and design analysis

  • Experience in designing multi-layer PCB and a good working knowledge in IPC PCB design guidelines

  • Must have experience completing design validation testing such as EMC/EMI, ESD, environmental and durability testing for line powered products

  • Experience with Communications Protocols; UART, SPI, I2C, RS232, USB, Ethernet

  • Proficiency with common laboratory equipment such as hand solder instruments, DMMs, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and other equipment

  • Must have excellent troubleshooting ability and mentor / coach junior members in best practice design and development techniques

  • Ability to direct and coordinate manufacturing of prototype and production designs

  • Ability to develop and manage a hardware schedule with 80%+ on-time delivery

  • Responsible for leading hardware design reviews and contributing to overall project design reviews

  • Responsibility for delivering technical project documentation

  • Capable of identifying system risks and developing mitigation plans

  • Ability to quickly complete root cause analysis and implement corrective action while balancing project deadlines

  • Implement and ensure adherence to engineering best practices and procedures

  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills, must be resourceful and flexible, and actively participate in decision making processes

  • Must be a very good team player

  • Good written and verbal communication skills, effective presentation skills

  • Possesses good organization skills with the ability to contribute to multiple projects

  • Ability to travel up to 20%

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experienced with PCB layout, fabrication, and assembly processes for mixed signal, high speed designs

  • Experience with ARM and PIC microcontrollers is a required

  • Familiarity with RFID, Proximity, and Smart card technologies is a plus

  • Experience with Bluetooth Low Energy, Wi-Fi, Z-Wave, ZigBee and/or radio hardware is a plus

  • Experience designing embedded electronics for harsh environmental conditions is a plus

  • Basic embedded C programming skills to exercise hardware functions is a plus

Required Education and Experience:

  • BS in Electronics or Electrical Engineering

  • 8+ years in new product development

  • Or -

  • MS in Electronics or Electrical Engineering

  • 6+ years in new product development

VIEW JOBS 11/28/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-02-26T00:00 Lead Systems Engineer As the number of connected electronics products continue to grow for Allegion, the need to drive system architecture, reuse, and leadership in multidisciplinary integration of our software and electronics designs is increasing. The primary responsibility of the Lead Systems Engineer is to be the systems engineering functional lead for one or more new product development projects as well as performing feature growth and maintenance of existing product lines. In this role you will lead a team of cross-functional product development and/or product support engineers and be responsible for overall product definition, architecture development, and system integration activities that span software, firmware, electrical, and mechanical design components. In early phases of new projects, you will work with marketing, product management, sales, and end customers to properly scope requirements to define initial design concepts with appropriate cross-functional team members. Later phases of programs focus on the integration, verification, and validation of the final product individually as well as within larger ecosystems. Throughout, the Lead Systems Engineer is responsible for coordinating technical execution to ensure the various aspects of the design are properly implemented for successful product launch. This role's primary product development and sustaining activities are within the residential and/or commercial cloud connected space, and thus experience with IoT devices, software/firmware, and general IT is a strong differentiator. Job Duties include: * Define software and product design requirements and specifications to meet customer, marketing, and internal requirements * Develop and analyze design concepts * Design complex high level systems and subsystems architectures employing modern cryptographic methods and best known cybersecurity practices * Define design trade-offs as necessary to ensure the highest level of product performance and quality * Ensure designs meet product requirements (functional, cost, quality, reliability, etc.) and that requirement risks are evaluated and mitigated early in the process * Coordinate creation of engineering development timelines and track development activities to meet delivery and cost commitments * Lead problem-solving activities as necessary for fielded products or new product development utilizing appropriate tools * Prioritize activities, define appropriate task scope, and lead integration of subsystems to meet product design requirements * Be the technical contact for key customers and OEM partners as new products are introduced into the marketplace. * Provide clear communications to technical team members as well as to other leaders and managers Knowledge & Work Experience: * Demonstrated experience in electronic and/or firmware/software analysis and development – prefer both * Demonstrated experience in product design from concept to production * Must have significant experience in software systems engineering design * Previous experience with low-power wireless communications products is beneficial (WiFi, Bluetooth LE, Zigbee, etc). * Strong requirements management experience * Strong engineering project management skills * Must have demonstrated experience leading project teams to deliver programs on time and on budget * Must be comfortable leading a multidisciplinary team with members of various experience levels through all stages of product development and problem solving activities * Must be a creative thinker with high initiative and high achievement goals * Demonstrated technical coaching and mentoring skills * Knowledge of cybersecurity methods and protocols preferred * Experience with cloud service architectures (AWS, Azure, etc.) preferred Education & Minimum Years of Experience: * BS in Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field * At least 8 years consumer product design experience * Seeking candidates eligible for employment in local country/region. * Percentage of travel: 20% Allegion is a diverse and inclusive environment.
