Lead Driver

The Lead Driver assists the District Operations Manager with various duties, oversees drivers, and fills in for drivers with time off, completing fuel delivery to customers in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining awareness of customer satisfaction and public safety.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (The major task areas required of the incumbents to successfully perform in this job.)

• Assist the Manager - District Operations with coordination and scheduling of fuel delivery.

• Assist with the training of new drivers and ensure best practices are conveyed.

• Assist with Driver's observations, truck audits, and account

• Responsible for the oversight of the driver work area and shop area.

• Fields evening calls and questions from drivers.

• Facilitates daytime truck preloads.

• Facilitates daytime will call deliveries.

• Assists with skid tank installs.

• Oversee drivers, pulling route schedules and manipulating routes daily in order to maximize efficiency. Assists with coordinating after hours route changes.

• Drives truck safely obeying all traffic laws.

• Comply with all safety aspects of performing delivery of fuel and loading of tankers following all procedures, processes, and safety procedures including wearing protective clothing, reporting all accidents or any incidents that results in a Spill/Environmental to supervisor immediately, cleaning up any spills and following Hours of Service Regulations.

• Deliver fuel to customers ensuring all customer requirements are met including meeting delivery time windows, proper fuel is delivered, any spills are cleaned up, and all fuel caps are replaced and proper paperwork is completed and given to customer.

• Fax all delivery paperwork to the corporate office daily.

• Complete assigned routes in a logical sequence ensuring all delivery times are met and working at a steady pace while delivering fuel, maintaining safety.

• Perform all truck maintenance procedures, on a daily basis, including checking hoses, swivels, pumps, etc. to ensure there are no leaks, change parts as needed, verify all safety supplies are on the truck, keep inside and outside of truck clean and orderly, complete daily vehicle inspection report (DVIR), and notify manager of any issues that need to be fixed.

• Load truck with fuel maintaining loading cards at all required loading racks, following procedures outlined by the rack personnel and keep track of gallons on the truck at all time to ensure proper loading while at the rack.

• Order and purchase parts within budgets to maintain fleet. Schedule truck maintenance.

• Communicate with manager daily to obtain schedule of where to load, notifying manager if product is not available at low cost vendor, requesting further direction as needed.

• Maintain positive friendly working relationships with all customers, meeting delivery window time frames and dependable and reliable expectations.

• Maintain a working relationship with all employees to help create a team environment.

QUALIFICATIONS: (Minimum requirements to competently perform the key responsibilities of this job in terms of educational background, work experience, licenses/certifications or other knowledge, skills, and abilities.)

• Requires successful completion of 4-years of high school, or equivalent and up to three months truck driving experience.

• Requires valid driver's license and the ability to drive a motor vehicle in a safe manner while carefully observing all traffic regulations.

• Requires experience as a Lead Driver or Supervisor

• Requires Class B Commercial Driver's License

• Requires Hazmat and tanker endorsements.

• Requires ability to use equipment such as fuel nozzle, tanker equipment, hand held computer, facsimile machine, and telephone.

• Requires knowledge of and the ability to use standard office equipment such as computer, telephone, facsimile machine, and printer.

• Requires strong customer service orientation in interacting with customers.
