About this role as a Lead Dining Room Assistant

Under the direction of the Senior Manager of Support Services, the Lead Dining Services Assistant is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of food service for HopeHealth Rhode Island in the absence of the Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As a member of the dining services team, this individual will:

  • Maintain all safety standards and regulations regarding food preparation and service per RIDOH FOOD CODE and RIDOH HOSPICE REGULATIONS.

  • Maintain food service to ensure consistent, high-quality standards.

  • Ensure the maintenance and cleanliness of the kitchen and serving area.

  • Provide the team with daily reports regarding incidents of change in patient needs.

  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively to achieve quality customer service.

  • Provide quality customer service, participate in hospice events, and serve as hospice marketing, fundraising and public relations representative at all times.

  • Set up trays with condiments and dishes appropriate for the food items being served.

  • Ensures all hospitality counters, including coffee stations are fully stocked and cleaned at all times for visitors.

  • Check Nurses' station and re-stock necessary food items as necessary.

  • Washes dishes after each meal and as needed.

  • Assist with the prep work and cooking as needed.

  • Maintain sanitary conditions by thoroughly cleaning work area and equipment in the kitchen, per daily, weekly and monthly printed schedule.

  • Prepare, cook, and plate food in an attractive and appealing manner keeping in guidelines of time and temperature perimeters.

  • Prepare food following prep sheets prepared by leadership.

  • Deliver daily patient menus with current diet orders as requested.

  • Inventories family kitchenette, nursing stations, fill when appropriate, and orders daily.

  • Check daily patient menus with current diet orders.

  • Record dish-machine temperatures and cleaning duty chart tasks.

  • Clean family dining room, kitchens and refrigerators, dispose of outdated food daily.

  • Provides service to customers for retail sales in the dining area.

  • Maintains confidentiality of patient/client and agency information at all times.

  • Reports promptly any suspected violation of compliance standards to the compliance officer.

  • Consistently apply the HopeHealth values in all aspects of work, complying with established HopeHealth mission, policies, procedures and objectives in quality assurance, safety, environment, infection control and HIPAA compliance.

In addition to the duties of the dining services assistant, the lead dining services assistant will be responsible for the following:

  • Receives and inventories all orders

  • Roch's produce - daily

  • Sysco food service - twice a week

  • Gordon food service - twice a week

  • Calises bread delivery - daily

  • Falvey uniforms - once a week

  • Daily ordering

  • Works with Senior Manager to ensure there is an adequate amount of produce for next day. Places orders with Rochs for items needed.

  • Works with Senior Manager to forecast bread and places order with Calises for next day.

  • Completes inventory of items in house for Gordons and Sysco order to be completed by Senior Manager.

  • Sets up employee station board daily to include:

  • Break times

  • Stations

  • Grill

  • Salad

  • Prep / dishes

  • Window

  • Important messages

  • Items needed to prep/complete

  • Conducts pre-shift

  • Ensures that all employees understand their stations for the day and delivers any important messages

  • Cash handling:

  • Close out POS system nightly

  • Collect cash from night before and deliver to Senior Manager

  • Balance cash register to ensure proper change is available

  • Act as the customer service liaison between customers and dining services assistants

  • Ensure all complaints and issues are handled and reported to Senior Manager

  • Monitors food preparation methods and ensures that portion sizes and food quality is proper.

  • Leads by example and ensures all DSA's are delivering a high level of customer service to all customers, patients, & co-workers.

What are the qualifications for this job as a Lead Dining Room Assistant ?

  • ServSafe Food Safety Certification or RI Dept of Health Food Safety Manager License

  • Ability to work independently and multitask.

  • Must be a self motivator who can follow directions given by care takers and/or patient families.

  • The desire to learn and grow within a cohesive team. Willingness to expand knowledge and capabilities.

  • Respect of the confidentiality of the organization, its' clients and families and staff. Able to perform duties with a high degree of independence, receiving a minimum of detailed supervision and guidance, requiring the use of initiative and judgment. Be punctual and handle tasks in a timely manner.

  • Be able to work irregular hours including evenings and weekends.

  • Promote professionalism in manner, dress and attitude.

  • Must be 18 years of age.

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • Prior experience in commercial food preparation and creation service preferred including following recipes and the ability to breakdown ingredients to increase/decrease the amounts needed.

  • Experience in health care field, experience with commercial kitchen equipment, and the ability to multitask.

  • Hospice personnel are expected to participate in appropriate continuing education as may be requested and/or required by their immediate supervisor.

  • In addition, Hospice personnel are expected to accept personal responsibility for other educational activities to enhance job related skills and abilities.

  • All personnel must attend mandatory educational programs.
