Reporting into the Patient Engagement product development team based at the heart of downtown Chicago, this role is essential to develop the leading patient engagement applications for a top global healthcare technology company.
We're looking for an experienced hands-on front-end developer to lead a team working on a platform that enables creation of dynamic, personalized, rules-driven content that can be tailored to individuals. With our new platform we are pushing the technology adoption boundary in Healthcare with our innovative solutions.
The platform MVP has been already created, but will continue to be evolved to make it more usable and powerful with features like data import and export, personalized content based on patient data, built-in surveys and advanced big data analytics.
It includes the authoring tool for new HTML5 programs, the player that delivers the content to the patients, the versioning and publishing tool and more. The successful candidate will be involved in the architecture, design, and coding phase of these critical projects and establishing technical solutions that fit within defined timelines. We expect this person to foster innovation through the adoption and promotion of new techniques, tools, and processes.
The ideal candidate should be willing to take on challenges of unknown dimensions, and work hand in hand with designers and customers and will need to have very strong technical skills, deep curiosity, business acumen, and the ability to think fast and act fast.
Develop software applications as part of the patient engagement development team
Collaborate with product managers, designers, clinicians, and software engineers
Collaborate with architects to adopt and implement proper product architecture
Collaborate with other technology teams to determine requirements for and integrate with existing products
Plan and execute tasks within an Agile/Scrum environment
Follow best practices and standards for coding
Remain current with evolving industry trends and technologies and bring ideas forward.
Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or an equivalent field
7+ years of experience in software development. Commercial software development experience highly desired.
Strong knowledge of Front-End Development concepts i.e. Web Standards, Responsive web design, progressive enhancement, Minimal Download Strategy, ADA compliance, etc.
Extensive experience with REST APIs and HTTP requests
Ability to implement complex, performant user interactions and animations
Knowledge of debugging techniques -- cross-device, cross-browser and performance-related
An eye for design and love for great UI
Good product and user experience sense
Experience with automated testing tools for unit and functional testing
Experience with Agile software development is a plus.

Effective interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal and listening), with ability to build positive working relationships across multiple groups within the organization
Proven ability to work and collaborate with subject matter experts and customers
Desire to mentor other developers
Healthcare experience is a strong plus
Ability and willingness to rapidly learn new technologies
Ability to work with ambiguity and utilize sound judgement and decision-making skills
Computer literacy in word processing (required), spreadsheet use (required)
Travel: Less than 5%.
