What we want

This position will report to the Associate Director of Research Information Systems. The Lead Database Administrator, with limited supervision, is responsible for managing and monitoring the Oracle database and middle tier as well as system administration of all Maestro servers. Serves as the technical lead for infrastructure projects. Provides technical oversight for the application of and compliance with technical standards. Completes reports and summaries for management and users including project status reports, problem reports, and progress summaries. Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Five years of related experience in database architecture and administration

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Skills administering Oracle databases and Weblogic servers, as well as unix based operating systems

  • Knowledge of PL/SQL programming language

  • Familiar with application development processes

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Software Engineering

  • Knowledge or experience with network administration and configuration

  • Experience with Oracle cloud products and Oracle Exadata

  • A working knowledge of load balancing software

Responsibilities:

  • Performs and coordinates Oracle Weblogic upgrades, monitors performance and manages resolutions for all middle tier problems

  • Performs and coordinates operating system patching, upgrades, and monitors hardware's availability

  • Assists in the administration of workstations and equipment in our training room

  • Configures and manages load balancing equipment

  • Performs and coordinates database upgrades, monitors database performance, and tunes it when needed

  • Makes sure that recovery environment is always in sync and ready to replace production

  • Tests and updates yearly disaster recovery process

  • Monitors daily batch jobs, coordinates database backups and clones development, training, test, quality control, and administrative instances on request

  • Manages all regular system operations including Maestro new release deployments and issue management using Jira

  • Serves as the technical lead for infrastructure projects

  • Provides technical oversight for the application of and compliance with technical standards

  • Performs other duties as assigned
