Core Responsibilities:

  • Interprets problems and provide solutions to business problems using data analysis, data mining, optimization tools, and machine learning techniques and statistics (e.g., network analysis, recommendation algorithms, NLP, propensity models).

  • Lead large scale projects that utilize online & offline data, structured & unstructured data, to connect customer and employee behavior to business outcomes.

  • Dive into large, noisy, and complex real-world behavioral data to produce innovative analysis of historical patterns in customer and employee behavior.

  • Convert complex data into insights and action plans.

  • Mentor and train junior team members in advanced analytics techniques and new ideas.

  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.

  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) as necessary.

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Job Specification:

  • Master's Degree Degree in Computer Science highly preferred.

  • Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Decision Science, Operational Research, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

  • Generally requires 7-11 years related experience.

  • 7+ years of experience working within an enterprise data warehouse environment (including SQL, procedural SQL, and ETL) in relational environments, cloud and MPP platforms (Teradata, Oracle, AWS, etc.)

  • 7+ years of experience in developing statistical models using Python, R, Weka, SAS, SPSS, MATLAB, etc.

  • Strong ability to work within distributed computing platforms, such as Hadoop, and associated technologies such as MapReduce, Spark, and Hive

  • Expert in at least 1 scripting and/or programming language such as C#, Python, Perl, Java, C++

  • Experience in statistical modeling techniques such as regression, decision trees, neural networks, support vector machines, clustering techniques, etc.

Primary Responsibilities Axalta Coating Systems is seeking an Data Analytics Scientist that develops and implements data collection, analysis, and modeling systems for the large databases supporting Color research and development, primarily for the Automotive OEM and Refinish businesses. A "Large Database" is defined as one with incomplete data, hundreds of variables and hundreds of thousands of data entries, beyond the data-analysis capabilities of routine tools or non-expert scientists. The Data Scientist also works closely with the Global Color Technology R&D group as well as other R&D groups, advising and consulting on technical programs where the complexity exceeds that which can be handled by commonly used analysis tools. Additionally, the scientist will be an analysis resource to marketing, manufacturing, business and information technology. Technology delivery of Color for internal uses is primarily done through the Axalta Color System software. This large and complex system interfaces with multiple data sources including Ingredient, Manufacturing, Refinish Formula and Customer Formula Delivery systems. This position will work closely with global users of these systems as well as resources in the Color Science group and Color System support team and software, instrument or imaging suppliers to ensure the data is analyzed to provide valid technical/business actions. Other responsibilities are to consult on key technical and business applications which involve large quantities of complex data; examples include: * Empirical modeling in applications such as color prediction modeling, property prediction modeling, and polymer structure property modeling. * Business modeling, e.g. customer demand forecasting for production and inventory planning. * R&D experiment design and analysis for complex projects. * Database mining to evaluate color or quality system performance.The successful candidate will join Axalta's Global Innovation Center (GIC) in Philadelphia, PA. The GIC group develops high performance coatings for the Transportation, Refinish, and General Industrial markets. Key Responsibilities: * Applies leading-edge data analysis methods to the development and use of color data systems as well as to manufacturing, research or product design projects. Applies quantitative color and appearance measurements to analyze and interpret results. * Develop physical and empirical property models of color and paint formulations. * Networks with global business, marketing, manufacturing, technology and information technology personnel and participates in working teams of Global Color management. * Consults on advanced analysis/statistics projects across the technical organization. * Consults as needed on business-driven data analysis. * Networks with external resources in academia, professional societies, suppliers and customers to gather and apply new data analysis methods which can be practically utilized in meeting technical and business objectives. #LI-GM1 Minimum Requirements * MS or PhD degree in Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related field with extensive research experience in application of data analytical methods to business and technical problems, including the practical ability to design data collection and apply data analysis tools. * Experience in theoretical and empirical modeling, statistics, analytics systems development and implementation.
