Custom Applicator

This position is responsible for the application of crop nutrients and crop protection products and the maintenance of custom application vehicles and equipment.

Job DutiesCapability to use math skills to calculate chemical mixes per blend sheet specifications and proper calibration of fertilizer and spraying equipment. Operate, service, and maintain all types of custom application equipment. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with customers, employees, supervisors and suppliers. Assist with daily operations at locations which may include receiving, loading and delivering products along with treating seed.Basic QualificationsHigh school diploma or general education degree. Post-secondary schooling desirable. Experience may be substituted for education. Possess or ability to obtain a Class A CDL with Hazmat & Tanker Endorsement. Ability to lift 60 lbs, handle exposure to weather conditions and work extended seasonal hours. Possess or ability to obtain Commercial Pesticide Applicator Certification. Previous experience operating and servicing farm machinery. Farming background or experience with application of crop protection products preferred.Preferred Qualifications

Job Description The Quality Assurance Manager is primarily responsible for insuring production adherence to customers' specifications and/or accepted standards. As needed, the incumbent will assist the corporate sales group with product applications and recommendations and will handle all product quality issues for the assigned Steel mill. The incumbent is also responsible for insuring the mill's continuing compliance with the Gerdau Business System (GBS). The Quality Assurance Manager reports to the VP & General Manager, with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Director of Corporate Quality. Reporting to the incumbent will be Routine Facilitators, Improvement Facilitators, Product Metallurgists, Lab Technicians, Schedulers and Billet Yard Personnel, depending on mill requirements. Number of direct and indirect reports will vary by location. The incumbent should have in-depth knowledge of testing techniques and analytical procedures related to product quality, metallurgical requirements and standards for steel products. The incumbent should be familiar with chemical, mechanical and metallurgical analysis and respective testing equipment. Must have demonstrated understanding of quality control and process control techniques as well as investigation process and reporting. Will be responsible for procedures and practices related to computer systems including local MES (Manufacturing Execution System), SAP and location-specific applications. The Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for the chemical analysis and mechanical testing of each batch for adherence to company and customer standards. Investigates any discrepancies in the quality of product. Meets with customers to discuss product adherence to specifications and application and support of quality functions. Develops and presents effective recommendations to operating departments on metallurgical issues. The incumbent, working in conjunction with the Melt Shop and Rolling Mill leadership, establishes standard practices and procedures. Process changes are approved by the Quality Assurance Manager. The incumbent works closely with Operations in resolving quality issues and in developing new products without compromising quality or safety. The incumbent manages interdisciplinary teams and has accountability for the interests of all parties in creating and modifying work procedures and equipment. Recommends disposition of batches not meeting specifications. Responsible for maintenance as needed on Laboratory and other test equipment. Responsible for content of certified mill test reports for customer(s) and informs the VP & General Manager of any deviations in the products. For customer service, the Quality Assurance Manager acts as a liaison with customers, quality inspection firms and external agencies to insure Gerdau is in compliance with all quality requirements. May be required to visit job sites or independent testing facilities to insure our compliance. Investigates quality failures, determines root causes, and recommends corrective actions. The incumbent calls on customers with sales personnel, to resolve customer complaints or determine the feasibility of making new products. As requested, may assist other Gerdau locations in resolving quality issues. This is in the form of investigation and recommendation but carries no direct responsibility. Shares best practices through participation in the Knowledge Management (KM) system and attendance at corporate quality meetings. As needed, will participate in on-going corporate quality projects. Directs the Scheduler in scheduling activities as to what sizes and grades are to be produced. The incumbent is responsible for determining personnel needs, selecting applicants, and training new employees and follow-up of work performed. This position has full accountability of all aspects of People Management with subordinates. This position will also coach and mentor personnel on product quality, operational effectiveness and career development. The incumbent will participate on special projects or conduct other duties as assigned. Will be responsible for staying abreast of current technology to recommend changes to effect continual quality and process improvement. Principal Accountabilities 1. Responsible for thorough, timely and accurate analysis of steel produced. 2. Responsible for required quality of the product. 3. Responsible for proper, efficient and effective work methods. 4. Responsible for the safe and proper operation of equipment. 5. Responsible for employee selection, training, evaluation and discipline. 6. Responsible for carrying out company policy and programs. 7. Responsible for effective control of turnover and attendance. 8. Responsible for maintenance of testing equipment. 9. Responsible for generating and maintaining complete and accurate quality records in conformance with the established quality assurance program. 10. Cooperate with other departments to maintain coordinated efficiency of operations. 11. Communicate any potential quality issues and liabilities effectively and immediately to Director of Corporate Quality. 12. Insure compliance with GBS guidelines, customer and external agencies' quality assurance programs in all mills as needed. 13. Visit customers as required for resolving claims or development of new products. 14. Direct scheduling activities of Scheduler as required. 15. Responsible for assisting procurement with the approval, auditing and on-going quality follow up with vendors. 16. Leads direct reports in a manner that promotes ongoing development of knowledge, skills and abilities. 17. Other duties as assigned. The incumbent must perform the above mentioned duties and responsibilities in accordance with all Federal, State, and Local environmental regulations. Employees must also report any situation which may have a detrimental impact to human health or the environment to their immediate supervisor.
