SCOPE OF POSITION:

The Lead County Attorney seeks justice with professionalism, excellence and pride, consistent with the New Hampshire Rules of Professional Conduct, American Bar Association and National District Attorney's Association guidelines, as a criminal prosecutor with a concentration in Superior Court.

Acting as a counsel for the State of New Hampshire in criminal matters, the Lead County Attorney supervises and directs the work of the Assistant County Attorneys and the support staff within one of the catchment areas, including reviewing and evaluating employee performance. Acting as a direct liaison to the police departments, including conducting trainings, the Lead County Attorney accounts for all aspects of investigations, preparations, and prosecutions of matters within the statutory and common law jurisdiction of the County Attorney as assigned. This includes effectively preparing and prosecuting all levels of felony/misdemeanor/violation charges as assigned in the caseload, drafting indictments/complaints/petitions, preparing all forms/pleadings, researching pertinent case laws/decisions/legislations, and working closely with Victim Witness Specialists to ensure that all witnesses/victims are properly informed, prepared, and supported throughout the prosecution process. Further, the Lead County Attorney collaborates with police, community partners, members of the public, and court staff and is on a rotating on-call schedule.

  • Juris Doctor from accredited law school, and

  • 3 (three) to 5 (five) years of experience as a criminal attorney, or

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

  • A member in good standing of the New Hampshire Bar Association.

  • In-depth knowledge of principles and rules of law, rules of evidence and the New Hampshire criminal justice system.

  • Ability to effectively analyze information in a short period of time.

  • Excellent judgment, tact, courtesy, maturity and communication (written and oral) skills are essential.

  • Ability to effectively interact with individuals at all levels.

  • Supervisory and conflict resolution skills are required.
