SUMMARY OF THE ROLE

The Lead, Construction E&I Specialist is responsible for electrical and instrumentation construction oversight of the EPC contractor during the execution phase of the RGLNG project. They will take technical responsibility for facility construction and support coordination between multiple disciplines, ensuring seamless interaction between NextDecade and the EPC contractor. The role ensures that construction and testing activities are carried out according to contractual obligations and to the agreed specifications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all construction related electrical and instrumentation field activities on the LNG site and act as a liaison between the owners construction management group and owners engineering group.

  • Review specifications and other construction documents for constructability, site access and recommend changes to maximize the ultimate success of the construction efforts in their area.

  • Understand and interpret codes, standards and regulations as they relate to electrical and instrumentation work packages.

  • Working knowledge of Engineering Codes and Standards related to electrical engineering, NFPA, IEEE, ANSI, and others.

  • Attend and support preconstruction readiness reviews, documentation review processes and weekly construction progress meetings.

  • Conduct daily site inspections to monitor construction progress, quality and identify potential risks.

  • Zipper into the EPC contractor's organization and develop working level relationships to support the "One Team" approach.

  • Review project drawings, specifications, and technical documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with design documents and standards.

  • Lead E&I system readiness and system punch list walkdowns and support the owners punch list database. The role will act as the primary point of contact between the EPC contractor and the owners team for managing and resolving open E&I punch items.

  • Offer solutions to resolve unforeseen site conditions, unplanned interferences, technical discrepancies, and other construction conflict problems.

  • Observe EPC contractor construction work-in-progress and ensure installation / fabrication / field testing is carried out to agreed specifications.

  • Interface with owners Engineering, Project Controls, HSSE, Regulatory & Permitting and Quality functions to support successful project execution.

  • Provide HSSE leadership in engineering and construction activities on site.

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum experience required for the position

  • 10+ years of experience in electrical and instrumentation in the field during the construction phase of major oil & gas projects.

  • 3+ years experience during the execution phase of LNG liquefaction projects, from detailed engineering through startup, preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate engineering discipline or construction management is preferred; or equivalent experience.

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position

  • Knowledge of field engineering, construction processes, construction principles and, overall knowledge of EPC project phases.

  • Extensive knowledge of electrical and instrumentation construction methods, system troubleshooting and implementing E&I lessons learned on a mega project, particularly in LNG.

  • Communicates effectively at all levels of the organization to ensure clarity in expectations requirements, and deliverables with excellent analytical skills.

  • Ability to work on competing priorities to meet time-bound requirements.

  • Welcomes working in a fast paced challenging and diverse entrepreneurial environment.

  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Must have a "hands-on" method of working.

  • Must be flexible with work scope requirements and responsibilities to ensure the successful completion of the Rio Grande LNG project.

Work Environment

  • Must be able to wear all necessary PPE equipment to perform job functions.

  • Operates in a complex construction environment.

  • Exposure to indoor and outdoor weather conditions.

  • Not necessarily protected from weather and temperature changes. Possible exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy weather conditions.

  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts and electrical circuits.

  • Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds of a pitch level sufficient to cause marked distraction.

  • Routinely uses standard office and field communications equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers w/scanner and fax, and radios.

  • Ability to drive to other Company work locations as required.

  • Ability to move throughout all areas of the facility, including being physically capable of traveling to a designed muster point during emergency situations.

  • Stand and/or sit continuously and perform job functions for a full shift.

  • The incumbent is required to have fully mechanical motion and usage of all extremities.

  • Physically able to walk, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, lift, push, pull, climb, balance, crouch, handle, and lift items weighing up to 20 lbs. without assistance.

  • Visual acuity corrected to perform job functions. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

  • Must be able to clearly communicate with others via radio, phone, and verbal methods.

  • May be required to enter confined spaces.

  • May be required to work at elevated heights and access elevated structures without assistance.
