THIS IS A FULL-TIME POSITION, BASED IN OUR WASHINGTON, DC OFFICE.

THE ROLE

You will be responsible for managing the compliance testing and issue management functions of MPOWER. In addition to being a regulatory compliance subject matter expert, you will have the opportunity to understand and explore the various inherent risks and mitigating controls across the organization. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Spearheading comprehensive compliance and operational control testing across the organization, ensuring rigorous adherence to regulatory standards and internal protocols

  • Conducting annual internal assessments associated with FACTA, Fair Lending/ECOA, UDAAP, BSA, and Privacy, instilling a culture of continuous improvement and compliance excellence

  • Updating MPOWER Executive Leadership on pivotal regulatory changes, furnishing the organization with actionable insights to swiftly adapt and maintain compliance resilience

  • Revising compliance policies as needed to align seamlessly with shifting regulatory landscapes and organizational priorities

  • Conducting meticulous evaluations of procedures and controls, ensuring their alignment with MPOWER's overarching policies and obligations, thus fortifying the foundation of our compliance framework

  • Championing a culture of transparency and accountability, promptly identifying and escalating breakdowns and weaknesses in key controls, and spearheading proactive measures to rectify them

  • Following up with business units to ensure swift resolution of compliance issues and incidents, fostering accountability and continuous improvement

  • Providing meticulous oversight of critical compliance processes, including OFAC reviews, marketing opt-outs, and data deletion requests, while proactively identifying opportunities to enhance the customer experience through complaint and testing insights

THE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in in Business Administration, Law, Finance (or higher) in a related field

  • 7+ years in an operational or compliance position, preferably with a focus on control testing and monitoring

  • Compliance or Risk certifications (i.e, CRCM, CERP) are beneficial but not required

  • Demonstrated success with managing employees

  • Prior work experience within financial services or financial technology (FinTech)Experience with education loan financing is preferred but not required

  • Passion for compliance risk management with a desire for operational excellence and efficiency

  • Analytically driven with the ability to interpret and derive insights from data

  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills

  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, and ability to work well both independently and in a team environment

  • A passion for financial inclusion and access to higher education is a must, as well as comfortable working with a global team across multiple-time zones and sites!

In addition, you should be comfortable working in a fast growth environment, meaning a small agile team, fast-evolving roles and responsibilities, variable workload and tight deadlines, a high degree of autonomy, and 80-20 everything.
