Job Description:

Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia's capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance.

Serving a multi-campus academic environment, the Communications Officer joins a team of law enforcement and security professionals to provide a high-level of customer service to a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff. The Communications Officer will provide police communications to provide maximum efficiency and effectiveness on all shifts (24-hour scheduling). As with all other members of the Reynolds Department of Police, the Communications Officer is charged with upholding the image and respect of the department and the college while ensuring the safety and security of students, faculty, staff and college visitors. Ability to work flexible schedules (morning, evening, night, or weekend shifts) is required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Considerable working knowledge of radio codes, voice communications systems, alarm systems, and security cameras. Working knowledge of principles of records management, and office and administrative processes and systems.

Working knowledge of statute enforcement, and safety and security concepts, procedures, and techniques. Demonstrated ability to utilize personal computers in order to gather and compile information, and write factual reports. Demonstrated ability to interpret and communicate policies, practices, and regulations; and to react appropriately in emergency situations. Must be DCJS Communication Officer certified, and hold NCIC/VCIN certification, or have the ability to obtain upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

Current emergency dispatching experience. Demonstrated ability to develop internal communications policies.
