The Veterans' Home in Holyoke is seeking several experienced and collaborative professionals for the role of Lead CNA (CNA II). The incumbent for this position is responsible for a variety of functions including providing direct Veteran care, nutritional care, and upholding infection prevention protocols. Applicants should have an unwavering commitment to human services and be champions for the health, safety and care of our Veteran residents.

Schedule:

This is a full-time (40 hours/week) position working from 3pm to 11:30pm with an alternating weekend and holiday schedule.

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

  • Provide daily Veteran care to include assistance with ADLs

  • Report and document all Veteran care activities particularly when there is a change to a Veteran's condition

  • Demonstrate effective problem-solving by using both sound judgement and interpersonal skills to promote a professional, safe and productive environment of care

  • Report complaints by Veterans or family members

  • Maintain competencies in all aspects of Veteran care and to ensure the delivery of safe Veteran care and compliance with regulatory standards

  • Attend in-service programs to remain current with nursing trends, new techniques, and equipment

  • Perform other related duties as required

Required Qualifications:

  • Must possess a current, active certification as a Nurse Aide in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts

  • At least one (1) year of experience in the care of geriatric patients in a healthcare setting such as long-term care

  • CPR certification through the American Heart Association

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in dementia, hospice or other relevant discipline;

  • Ability to establish effective relationships with individuals, families, and team members;

  • Demonstrated attention to detail with readiness to respond appropriately when needed;

  • Capacity to maintain accurate records and exercise discretion in handling confidential information

  • Skilled in the use of using a computer for completion of work assignments

Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional, paraprofessional or technical experience in a hospital, clinic or medical facility, the major duties of which included providing nursing care, medical and/or paramedical services to clients/patients, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

Substitutions:

I. An Associate's degree or higher with a major in medical technology, medical assistant, nursing, nurse education or medicine may be substituted for the required experience.*

II. Registration as a Certified Medical Assistant by the American Association of Medical assistants may be substituted for the required experience.

  • Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
