SUMMARY: The Lead Clinical Equipment Technician reports to the Manager Patient Care Equipment.

As a hands-on technician the Lead Clinical Equipment Tech will assist in organizing and lead patient care equipment operations ensuring the cleanliness disinfection availability and on-time distribution of all portable medical equipment accessories and supplies used for patient care at The Miriam Hospital. The Lead Tech will be expected to assist with record keeping and re-ordering of supplies for the department.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma or equivalent is required in addition to one year of on-the-job training.

Minimum of two (2) years� experience working as a Clinical Equipment Technician or similar role. Along with experience working in a hospital environment and familiarity with hospital equipment.

Ability to use Windows based maintenance management program to enter and retrieve service records.

Organizational and interpersonal skills are necessary to collaborate with coworkers and/or work independently to ensure task completion.

Problem solving prioritization and time management skills are required to accommodate fast paced hospital environment.

Customer service skills are necessary to deal with vendor and customer requests.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensures the daily activities of Patient Care Equipment staff are running as expected in compliance with department policies and procedures. Provides counseling and performance improvement action as necessary and report to Manager.

Makes and prioritizes assignments as needed relating to patient safety and clinical requirements. Ensure Clinical Equipment technicians complete all tasks assigned and documented per shift.

Recommends and documents disciplinary actions to the Manager of Patient Care Equipment as appropriate for corrective actions. Coordinates with the Manager on orientation and training of new personnel e.g. Clinical Equipment Technicians both directly and through employees assigned to train (preceptors).

Confirm basic operations of portable equipment to ensure working order and to ensure appropriate repairs are made. Cleans and disinfects returned equipment and accessories according to established policy.

Maintain the code cart exchange program including rotation of supplies replenishment of cart supplies and documentation in Maximo post event. The Lead Tech may perform secondary check for the code carts completed by the Clinical Equipment Techs to ensure proper stocking.

Perform daily rounds to ensure rotation and adequate supply of portable equipment and oxygen cylinders are distributed to clinical areas.

Perform daily rounds to maintain an adequate supply of oxygen cylinders to meet safety guidelines.

Document all PCE activities in the Equipment Management system.

Perform thorough visual inspection of portable medical equipment to ensure all mechanics are intact and functioning properly. Maintain cleanliness and organization of all Patient Care Equipment storage rooms.

Perform troubleshooting where appropriate including but not limited to battery changes power cord and cable integrity and hose replacement.

Conduct daily inventories of code cartsequipmentand supplies.

Provides input in PCE department procedure changes and assists in implementation.

Communicate equipment problems beyond the scope of departmental resolve to Supervisor or Medical Engineering personnel.

Maintain quality assurance safety environmental and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policiesproceduresand objectives.

Remove malfunctioning equipment from service and coordinate with Medical Engineering for repair.

Collaborate to expedite discharges by delivering durable medical equipment (DME) to patients in a timely manner.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Assists Manager of Patient Care Equipmentmay lead up to 10 FTEs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Potential contact with hazardous wastedustand dirt when cleaning and retrieving equipment may occur. There is also the potential for exposure to electrical hazards.

Occasional exposure to contagious disease through the retrieval of used equipment. Hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions.

Position requires constant walking and pushing of equipment and occasional lifting of up to 60 lbs.

Position requires inter- and intra-department communication to complete tasks appropriately.

INDEPENDENT ACTION:

Perform independently within division and department policies and practices. Refers specific complex problems to Supervisor where clarification of policies and procedures may be required.
