Lead Carpenter-Cabinet Maker (Ws-10) [1 Vacancy]

Position Information

A Lead Carpenter-Cabinet Maker supervises and participates in carpentry and cabinetmaking work involving the constructing, altering and repairing of all types of wooden articles and structures including a wide variety of high grade wooden furniture; and performs other related duties as required.

Current Vacancy Information:

There is one (1) vacancy with the Department of Facility Maintenance,Public Building and Electrical Maintenance Division. Work hours are Monday - Friday, 6:50 AM - 3:20 PM.

Under the direct supervision of the Carpentry Supervisor, performs a variety of highly skilled journey level carpentry work involving the construction, renovation and modification of public facilities and the fabrication and installation of storage cabinets, counters, shelving, tables, doors and other accessory items such as key cabinets, drapery, valances, chalkboards, bulletin boards etc., which require the knowledge and use of high level cabinet-making skills. Also performs numerous skilled journey level carpentry work in the repair and maintenance of wide variety of public buildings, related structures and appurtenances under the jurisdiction of the Department of Facility Maintenance.

Special Work Requirements: This position serves as a Disaster Response Worker and sometimes requires working beyond the normal workday, on weekends, as necessary to meet schedules and deadlines.

This position is required to have unescorted access to the Joint Traffic Management Center. Any employee with unescorted access to secured areas and equipment related to traffic management center requires a fingerprint-based national criminal history record check prior to assignment to this position authorized by HRS 846-2.7 (b)(37) and in accordance with JTMC Policy No. 2016-B.06, Fingerprint-Based Criminal History Record Check (CHRC) and CHRC Clearance.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to show demonstrated competence in performing the journey level skills and duties of a Carpenter-Cabinet Maker.

Such experience must have demonstrated the ability to apply the techniques appropriate to carpentry and cabinetmaking work; set up, adjust and operate a variety of woodworking machines;interpret and work from plans,blueprints, sketches and working drawings; prepare sketches of work details; estimatelabor and material requirements; rig and work from scaffolds and other high and difficult vantage points;encourage safety practices and enforce safety rules; work to close tolerances; work with dexterity and safety;give and follow oral and written instructions; plan, assign and supervise the work of others; maintain harmony inworking relationships with others; and handle weights and loads.

NOTE: CABINET MAKING EXPERIENCE ALONE IS NOT QUALIFYING. EXPERIENCE MUST INCLUDE BOTH CARPENTRY AND CABINET MAKING.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENT:

• Valid driver's license (Type 3/automobile), prior to appointment.

• Valid Forklift Certification, prior to completion of probation.

Any required licenses and certificates must be obtained by the time indicated above, and maintained throughout the course of employment in the position.

EMPLOYMENT SUITABILITY:

To determine the selectee's employment suitability for the position of Lead Carpenter-Cabinet Maker, the Department of Human Resources will review criminal convictions, dismissals from employment, and separations from military service under other than honorable convictions.

FINGERPRINTING REQUIREMENT:This position will be assigned to service the Joint Traffic Management Center (JTMC). Any employee with unescorted access to secured areas and equipment within the JTMC requires a fingerprint-based criminal history record check. Therefore, the selectee will be required to be fingerprinted as part of their employment suitability review. The Department of Human Resources will review fingerprint-based state and national criminal history record information from the Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
