Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), located in Boston, MA currently has an opportunity for an experienced American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP) certified Perfusionist to join a team of 14 full time Perfusionists and 3 Mechanical Assist Specialists as the Lead Perfusionist. The MGH Lead Perfusionist does not simply function as an assistant to the Director of Perfusion Services, but will be a role model, mentor and liaison providing oversight and support through a broad array of roles and responsibilities. The MGH Perfusion team provides support across several clinical and non-clinical programs including:
Adult cardiopulmonary bypass outside of the routine for procedures such as pulmonary thromboendarterectomy with DHCA, aortic reconstruction and adult congenital surgeries.
Intricate involvement with temporary and long-term mechanical assist devices, supporting a robust cardiac transplantation program.
Pre-operative and intra-operative circulatory support for heart, lung and liver transplant surgery. Donor hearts, lungs and livers are often transported using an ex-vivo perfusion system that is operated by our team.
Support for the MGH ECMO specialist team throughout the institution.
Involvement in clinical and translational research with multiple teams.
Simulation for cardiopulmonary bypass and ECMO for multiple clinician groups.
Busy clinical rotation site for three Perfusion programs.
Three levels of on call duties split evenly over the team and are typically limited to one call shift per week plus one weekend per month.
This position offers tremendous opportunities to apply an advanced perfusion skillset and leadership qualities across the spectrum of our profession within a singular institution. The ideal candidate for the Lead Perfusionist position will have a minimum of 5 years of experience as a clinical perfusionist with a broad clinical acumen.
