A Lead Technician is a working Lead member of a project team. The Lead Tech will be responsible for communicating effectively to coordinate operations and oversee workers at job sites. As the point of reference for both workers and supervisors, you will be a key person for the completion of a project. You be working alongside your team of 3-5 members to productively and safely install cable pathway systems, fire-stop systems, various electronic components, and various cables.

Major Roles and Responsibilities

  • Installation of structured cabling systems including all aspects of the installation process.

  • Reads and interprets all floorplans, drawings, and specifications.

  • Properly sets up a variety of copper and fiber testers.

  • Performs system testing and troubleshooting as required.

  • Terminates, labels, tests, and troubleshoots optical fiber and copper installations.

  • Excel in technical tasks

  • Proactively leads a team of 3-5 Technicians/Installers to complete project tasks.

  • Proactively oversee and lead job site organization and basic housekeeping maintenance.

  • Coordinate tasks according to priorities and plans.

  • Allocate general and daily responsibilities.

  • Resolve problems when they arise and report progress to managers.

  • Understands, adheres to, and promotes the Environmental, Health & Safety policies.

  • Possess working knowledge of ANSI/TIA/EIA cabling standards and the National Electric Code.

  • Adequately train Technicians and Installers to complete all the tasks and responsibilities of their positions.

  • Assists in developing Technicians to complete all the tasks and responsibilities of a Lead Technician.

  • Monitor job expenditures.

  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.

  • Maintain a satisfactory compliance with customer.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Ability to understand and effectively explain every aspect of the structured cabling system including pathways, spaces, horizontal cabling, backbone copper, backbone fiber optic, cross and inter-connections, and testing. This includes understanding applicable codes, standards, and industry-best practices and the ability to differentiate between them and make recommendations.

  • Ability to choose the correct tool and methodology for the given task; for themselves and can help other team members do the same.

  • Ability to listen carefully to follow instructions

  • Demonstrated aptitude for learning from senior team members

  • Exhibit a positive attitude

  • High attention to detail

  • Ability to meet deadlines

  • Willingness to work days, night, and weekends as project requires

  • Self-motivated and excellent work ethic

  • Demonstrated team work and versatility in integrating into multiple work environments.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Industry certifications are highly desirable

  • In-house Certified Training Required (company provided)

  • 2-5 years work experience in Structured Cabling

  • Read, write, and understand English

  • Able to distinguish colors

  • Must have a valid drivers license

  • Ability to travel 90-95% of the time

Additional Notes

  • Probationary period of 90 days

  • Individual must possess good oral & written communication skills.

  • Individual must be able to pass a drug screening as well as meet background requirements.

Individual must be available to work variable hours.

This position oversees the creation and implementation of the Structured Cabling Services for North America. Responsible for the creation of business plans, sales achievement, development of technical training, sales leadership and support for this service. This position works with regional managers, project managers, procurement, technical support, product engineering, customer service, accounting and other departments to promote team work and achievement of common margin and revenue goals in the region. Required Skills * Drive business development services in all markets * Oversee project revenue, profit margins, on-time delivery, quality and the overall customer experience of the service * Identify measured based revenue of Structured Cable Services * Work closely with the regional managers in each market, ensuring MOPS, SOWs and procedures are created * Assist in securing and vetting service representatives used on projects * Serve as lead contact for the customer for promotion and sale of Alpha Broadband services * Assist in securing supplier partnerships and service partners * Provide organizational planning for the region which includes Alpha personnel and third party service providers; mentor and train personnel * Assist in planning annual budget and sales strategies * Oversee daily regional operations for services including estimating, quotes, project management, quality and technical support * Oversee multiple facility projects regionwide * Create financial models and forecasts; develop service pricing strategies * Oversee project staffing and recruiting resources for service projects * Develop comprehensive quotes, service proposals and presentations * Ensure service/installation process is in compliance with customer SOW and completion dates * Identify regional subcontractors and work with corporate contract administration * Negotiate subcontractor pricing that meets cost models and forecasts and margin goals * Oversee new project implementations ensuring compliance with contractual and work scope definitions * Maintain effective and harmonious relationship with the sales, engineering, manufacturing, customer service, purchasing and marketing departments * Ensure proper implementation of service processes and procedures * Use project performance tracking tools and reports and software * Provide analysis of market requirements and competitive products; provide recommendations and strategies for service markets * Senior management, customer interaction, and service department management experience * Excellent interpersonal skills * Proven leadership and project management skills Required Experience Requirements and Skills: Education: High School Diploma or equivalent- technical field Experience: 8-10 years in related industry. including 5 years experience in project management and/or a service background Supervisory Experience: 4-6 years * Excellent record of attendance * Ability to speak/read/write English * Detail oriented with strong organizational skills * Work well under pressure * Current driver's license and acceptable driving record * Sufficient credit line for business expenses * Available weekends and after hours when on call Requirements and Skills cont: * Possess a valid Class A CDL driver's license within 90 days of hire * Minimum of three years' experience as an energized lineman * Knowledge of the electric utility system and its operation * Good interpersonal, communication skills * Good organizational, troubleshooting and problem solving skills * Knowledge of the proper connecting and disconnecting, installing and removal, moving and transferring of various electrical devices on customers facilities, i.e. transformers, transformer banks, regulators, reclosures, switching devices, capacitor banks, etc. * Knowledge of line construction such as installing anchor holes, framing poles, setting poles, stringing & sagging conductor, armor rodding, installing down guys, connecting conductors and installing pad mount gear * Ability to climb poles of various heights or receive certification for pole climbing * Knowledge of high voltage cable terminations * Ability to operate equipment as necessary to complete jobs, i.e. bucket truck, digger derrick, tensioners, rope rigs, etc. * Solid understanding of basic and advanced electrical principles * Proficient in all phases of line construction PC Application Skills: Basic level: Access Intermediate level: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint Travel Requirements: Expected 50-75% No phone calls please.
