Job Summary

Reporting to the Sport Programs unit within the Department of Sports and Recreation, this position oversees and supervises the prevention, acute care, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries; provides medical coverage of athletic activities and organizes orthopedic clinics; advises on the prevention and care of athletic injuries; team-teaches athletic training classes; and supervises assigned staff, students, and interns.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.Serves as subject matter expert for applicable and appropriate aspects of the Athletic Training service

2.Educates athletes on injuries, concussions, at-home care, and the purpose of specified rehab protocol

3.Works individually with athletes to tailor rehabilitation and prevention measures per individual needs and goals

4.Makes referrals to appropriate medical professionals to ensure an optimal level of care when necessary

5.Maintains current policies, practices, protocols, and standing orders

6.Works collaboratively with appropriate personnel to establish and maintain Emergency Actions Plans for the facilities

7.Assists in training Club Athletes, student assistants, and staff in the EAP protocol and execution practices

8.Maintains an inventory of supplies, including but not limited to medical/AT supplies, modalities, AEDs, medical kits, supplements, ATR cleanliness/organization

9.Supervises Assistant Athletic Trainer(s), assigned staff, students, and interns.



  1. Recruits and manages a network of contract Athletic Trainers for additional Club event support

  2. Develops, organizes, and implements a yearly educational program focused on acute care injury prevention.


Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, Kinesiology, or related field

Other Required Qualifications

NATABOC Certification Possess or eligibility to obtain and maintain a Georgia state licensure within thirty (30) days of hire.

Current, valid, and unrestricted driver's license

Required Experience

Five (5) years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications

First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor certification

Preferred Educational Qualifications

An advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, Kinesiology, or a closely related field

Preferred Experience

Two (2) years relevant experience in athletic training in a post-secondary level program or professional training in a related sports program
