The lead Intake Specialist handles all inquiries from patients, families, emergency room departments, physicians, therapists, and other referral sources, providing indicated services to include crisis counseling, referral and facilitation of assessments, admissions and transfers. Initiates the nursing review process with sending facilities to determine level of medical appropriateness for transfer. This position ensures thorough documentation of all inquiries and patient related information. Additional responsibilities of the Lead Intake Specialist is to lead the daily operations of their designated shift and assisting the Manager and Director of Admissions with Intake related tasks.

This position must have an RN License or a Master's in Psychology or Social Work, a minimum of 2 years of behavioral health experience, preferred in an Intake/Triage environment with experience in handling crisis situations or direct patient care. This position is 3:00pm - 11:00pm with occasional weekends. This is a supervisory position. Some management is preferred but not required.

SKILLS:

• Thorough knowledge of emotional disturbances, DSM-V diagnosis

• Ability to quickly assess patients for their risk to themselves or others

• Must be able to share information about the hospital and its programming

• Must be able to conduct basic triage on the phone about potential patients

• Excellent Communication Skills

• Excellent Telephone Etiquette Skills

• Proficient computer skills

• Able to multi-task

• Detail oriented

• Able to relate to those in crisis and/or emotionally disturbed

• Excellent customer service skills

• Able to take Vital Signs

• Able to guide and coach a team of 3-4 intake clinicians

Able to review labs and clinical notes from sending facilities and match against medical exclusionary criteria to determine if patients are medically appropriate for transfer.
