Job Summary

The Office of Indiana State Chemist is seeking a Lead Administrative Assistant. In this role, you will provide a high-level of administrative support and independently perform non-routine administrative functions exercising discretion, such as coordinating events, conducting searches for information, or preparing reports. In addition, you will handle non-routine inquiries and issues from internal and external sources, provide functional or administrative supervision over other support positions and may serve in a lead capacity for assigned program or for special projects.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Maintain all data associated with private applicators and pesticide dealers

  • Will serve as administrative support for the Manager of Certification and Licensing as well as the Pesticide Administrator

  • Can serve as backup for accounting section

  • Will coordinate with extension for regulatory purposes and training

What We're Looking For:

  • High school diploma/GED

  • 4 years of experience in an administrative support role

  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to handle frequent interruptions, balance multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality

  • Strong organizational and time management skills and attention to detail

  • Advanced computer and related software skills to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet, etc.

  • Ability to collaborate and communicate with individuals at all levels within and external to the university to support department needs

  • Ability to interpret policies and procedures to proactively resolve issues or improve processes

  • Ability to identify problems and implement or recommend solutions

  • Drafting, proofreading and editing skills

  • Ability to lead others and provide direction and constructive feedback

  • This position provides a hybrid schedule

  • Purdue will not sponsor work authorization for this position.

  • A background check is required for employment in this position

  • This was formerly classified as an operational/technical position; an internal lateral transfer will retain same benefit standing.

  • FLSA: Non-Exempt (Eligible for Overtime)

  • Retirement: Non-exempt Defined Contribution Plan
