As a member of the Berkley Small Business Solutions team, the lead actuary will collaborate with other functional areas to guide the profitable growth of the company. The role will involve a mix of reserving and ratemaking.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Creates accurate and dependable financial reporting for the organization which adequately reflects the financial condition of the company.

  • Assists with determination of loss and loss adjustment expense Incurred but Not Reported ("IBNR") reserves for all lines of insurance.

  • Conducts rate review, ratemaking, rate adequacy and price monitoring processes to achieve profitability and growth targets.

  • Collaborate with the data science team to integrate predictive modeling into the ratemaking process

  • Performs data, statistical and trend analysis.

  • Delivers the actuarial perspective and spreads the analytical mindset in a credible manner.

  • Collaborates on the long-range planning and forecasting of the company to maximize company performance over time.

  • Prepares state rate, rule and product filings.

Qualifications

  • Requires an ACAS or (FCAS)

  • Requires a graduate degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or related field

  • Requires at least 7 to 12 years of experience working experience in the P&C insurance industry

  • Requires at least 5 years of small commercial business experience

  • Requires at least 5 years of reserving and or pricing experience

  • Strongly prefers experience in building and maintaining models working in R or Python

  • Proven analytical, quantitative, and communication skills

  • Experience pulling, managing, and cleansing data

  • It is preferable for an applicant to have people-management background.

  • Team Player ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams to gather inputs and align objectives and recommendations through quantitative analysis

  • Have reinsurance experience, pricing experience, and insurance risk management exposure

  • Have extensive experience building pricing models using external and industry data

  • Have extensive experience building sophisticated mathematical and statistical models, with a demonstrable history of successful implementation (preferably with Bayesian modeling or machine learning experience)

VIEW JOBS 3/23/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-06-21T00:00 Job Location: United States : Delaware : Wilmington     Role Value Proposition:  As part of Global Risk Management, the Actuary of Model Validation will be a key team member in supporting validation of models used throughout the Global Enterprise and include those used in Financial Reporting, Cash Flow Testing, Pricing, Asset-Liability Management, Economic Capital and Hedging. The Actuary will report to the Assistant Vice President of the Enterprise Model Validation.   Key Responsibilities: * Build independent challenger models. * Assess the conceptual and theoretical soundness of each model based on mathematical, actuarial and finance theories. * Evaluate the appropriateness of assumptions, data sources and reliability of inputs. * Test model output through back testing, sensitivity analysis, stress testing or other analysis as applicable. * Assist in writing and reviewing validation reports illustrating the relevant results of theoretical review and testing, calling attention to areas of concern, and/or uncertainty. * Monitor findings, recommendations and management action plans resulting from validation reports, ensuring actions taken appropriately to address concerns. * Review and challenge annual model risk assessments. * Prepare metrics reporting as necessary.   Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills: Required: * Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, finance, investment and securities and investment management. * 5+ years’ experience working in the insurance industry. * ASA or FSA designation. * Prior modeling experience and knowledge of programming languages. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Ability to complete assignments with attention to details within established time frames.   Preferred: * FSA preferred. * Graduate degree in Mathematics or Physics. * Competency in high level programming languages such as C++. * Strong financial engineering background with experience in derivatives. * Knowledge in asset and liability modeling.   Business Category Global Risk Management – Model Risk Management   Number of Openings 1   At MetLife, we’re leading the global transformation of an industry we’ve long defined.
