The LDA Maintenance Mechanic

  • Appliances primary focus is the technical repair and preventative maintenance of appliances inventory including washers, dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators, etc.

Duties and Responsibilities

Repair to proper operational status the non-working appliances located with the Housing inventory; provide routine preventative maintenance to existing appliance inventory; perform general maintenance tasks within the Housing building inventory; and perform other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair appliances including washers, dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators, etc.

  • Knowledge of appliance electronic control systems.

  • Knowledge of various appliance manufacturer's products and specifications.

  • Skilled in general maintenance tasks including electrical and plumbing.

A Limited Duration Appointment (LDA) is a form of regular employment for a specific project or for a limited period. An LDA may be established for up to one year with an option to renew the appointment annually for a maximum of three years.

Minimum Qualifications:Typically requires a high school diploma and two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:Vocational or technical training; 3-5 years of appliance repair experience some experience and aptitude in general maintenance; ability to tear down and rebuild appliances to restore to working order; and valid driver's license.

The incumbent reports to the Housing Facilities Custodial Supervisor. This position requires the incumbent to wear non-slip steel shoes, university shirt, pants, belt (if necessary), and campus ID as part of the uniform. This position performs routine custodial tasks per established schedules and housekeeping standards. This is a fast-paced setting where specific job assignments, shifts and locations may vary within our residence halls as necessary to meet the department's needs. Custodians participate in on-call schedules and work long hours during the summer months. During the summer months, the schedule may be changed depending on the needs of the department. Duties and Responsibilities Performs routine custodial tasks such as sweeping, dusting, mopping, vacuuming, extracting, blowing, removing trash, cleaning stairs, washing walls and baseboards, cleaning windows and window coverings, cleaning and polishing mirrors, cleaning appliances and furniture; moves sofas, chairs, tables, desks, mattresses and beds to accomplish cleaning tasks; safely operates all vehicles and other job-related equipment; strips and refinishes floors (vct, vinyl, tile, wood, etc.); shampoos carpets and upholstery in suites, apartments, hallways, lobbies, community spaces, study rooms, kitchenettes, and offices within residential halls; cleans bathroom showers, tubs, stalls, toilets, glass, mirrors, sinks and walls using housekeeping chemicals, materials and equipment; restocks restrooms with all necessary materials and product; wears necessary PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as required; reports problems, incidents, damages or building repairs needed and as directed by supervisors and maintains necessary records; properly handles and disposes of recycling materials and follows instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies; provides quality customer service to staff, students and campus visitors; submits work request/work orders; performs light maintenance duties as needed such as replace screw type light bulbs, inspect for discolorations, clean vent covers, spray air cleaning products and place room size air scrubbers/fans; and performs additional duties as assigned or required to meet Housing & Residential Life and University goals and objectives. The ideal candidate will possess the following: * Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., bend, twist, pull, reach, climb stairs and ladders. * Ability to drive according to the University of Tennessee Safety Policy if required. * Communicates effectively and professionally in the workplace.
