St. Mary's University School of Law invites applications for one full-time Law Success Instructor.
The start date is January 4, 2021. This is a twelve-month, full-time, non-tenure track position.
The mission of Law Success is to ensure that St. Mary's students are successful in law school and beyond.
Successful instructors are team oriented and collaborative, possess a strongly positive mindset, are committed to excellence in teaching and academic support, and demonstrate passionate dedication to the students with whom they work. As this position is student facing, instructors are on campus and available to meet with students and graduates preparing for the bar exam. Aside from adjustments to working operations during the COVID-19 pandemic, this is generally not a remote work position.
For this role, you will primarily teach our upper-level courses, including Bar Preparation for Credit. Law Success requires a programmatic approach to teaching courses to ensure consistency between different sections of the same course and to provide a better student experience.
Instructors will, among other things, participate on program committees, teach classes, and regularly meet with individual students. St. Mary's has both day and evening programs, and instructors will teach in the evenings on a rotating basis. The Law Success Instructor hired for this position will also participate in operating our bar coaching program. This program will involve extensive student meetings, planning and execution of workshops, data tracking, and providing feedback on written work.
This is a twelve-month position, and you will be hired for a one-year contract. You will be evaluated at the end of the contract with options for renewal. The starting salary will be commensurate with credentials and experience.
Applicants for the position must have a JD degree, a strong academic record, at least two years of recent legal work experience post-JD graduation, have passed the bar exam on their first attempt, and either aptitude for, or experience in, teaching and academic support. Prior experience working in teaching and/or bar exam preparation or coaching at a law school is strongly preferred.
Applications can be found at http://stmarytx.applicantpro.com/jobs/. Along with the employment application please submit: (1) a cover letter addressing your interest in the position and how your experience would further the mission of Law Success, (2) curriculum vita, and (3) an official graduate transcript confirming the Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited school. The deadline for submission of applications is November 2, 2020. Applicants who proceed to the final interview round will be asked for two reference letters.
