Salary Range: $52,116 - $62,544 annually. Compensation will be commensurate upon experience and qualifications.

Summary

This position will provide law enforcement services, health, safety and protection to the real property of, all members of and visitors to, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. Promote a positive atmosphere conducive to the academic and social goals of the campus community.

Essential Functions

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Serves as the first-line contact with victims of crime and emergencies.

  • Provides assistance, information and direction to all members and visitors of the campus community.

  • Position patrols by vehicle and on foot all properties owned or leased by the University of Colorado Colorado Springs to detect and deter criminal activity, and to promote a sense of safety/security.

  • Responds to and investigates reports of criminal activity; enforces federal, state and local laws from petty offenses to felonies and arrest, release, or incarcerate offenders.

  • Enforces traffic, parking and campus regulations; conducts interviews and interrogations of victims, complainants, witnesses and suspects within the guidelines of current legal practices.

  • Writes reports documenting investigations of criminal and/or suspicious activity for actual or suspected violations of laws and institutional rules and regulations; prepares cases for presentation in municipal, county and district courts, and prepares to testify to their accuracy.

  • Contacts, assists and controls as necessary using verbal skills and physical restraint to include seizing, holding, controlling and/or otherwise subduing violent, or physically threatening persons, attempts to modify inappropriate or illegal behavior through education or enforcement.

  • Responds to settle verbal and physical disputes.

  • Governs vehicle and pedestrian traffic through enforcement of the Colorado Motor Vehicle Code and campus traffic regulations, issues summonses, verbal and/or written warnings.

  • Provides assistance and information to the campus community and its visitors in the areas of crime prevention, personal safety and general security; maintains and demonstrates proficiency and knowledge of laws and practices.

  • Maintains currency in firearms and non-lethal arrest and control tactics, first aid and CPR; responds to alarms of intrusion, fire and maintenance as well as any other internal security systems.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • POST certifiable within three months of hire. Position must successfully pass the UCCS PD Field Training Program within one year of hire. One year of college coursework (30 semester hours/ 45 quarter hours). College/university transcripts must accompany the application for verification, may be unofficial.

  • One year of law enforcement experience appropriate to the assignment or current Colorado POST Certification may substitute for the one year of college course work.

  • Must be at least 21 years of age; have no felony convictions or domestic violence convictions

  • Possess a valid Colorado driver's license and not have acquired more than seven (7) points in the last year and/or no more than twelve (12) points within the last two years on a driver's license.

  • No Alcohol/drug related traffic convictions in the last three years and no repeat alcohol/drug convictions after the age of 18 within the last ten years.

  • Must pass a pre-employment background check to include criminal and driver history, physical, psychological and polygraph examinations, credit history screen.

  • Must be willing and able to work rotating shifts to include holidays, weekends and semester breaks.

  • Position is subject to random drug testing.

  • Position is designated as an essential service position, must be willing and able to report to the campus in response to emergency situations, and is FLSA non-exempt (eligible for overtime payment).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current P.O.S.T. certification

Physical Requirements

  • Able to exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
