ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

This job description intends to provide a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  • Conducts law enforcement duties at TSA passenger screening checkpoints.

  • Directs motor vehicle traffic at vehicle inspection stations when required by threat level.

  • Works with full-time officers during special assignments

  • Replaces full-time officers when directed by Law Enforcement Lieutenant

  • Successfully complete annual mandatory training as required by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission

  • Performs other duties as directed by the Law Enforcement Lieutenant

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Required:

  • High School Diploma required.

Experience:

Required:

  • 5 years of law enforcement experience as a sworn officer

Licenses or Certifications:

Required:

  • NC Basic Law Enforcement Training Certification

COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE OF JOB DUTIES

Knowledge of:

  • TSA regulations

  • Federal, state, and local laws

  • FAA requirements

  • RDU Law Enforcement Department's policies and procedures

  • English grammar, spelling, punctuation, additional spoken languages is a plus.

  • Legal terminology and court procedures

  • Modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment

Skilled in:

  • Logical problem-solving

  • Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain adequate and appropriate working relationships.

  • Performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature

Ability to:

  • Evaluate a situation, make an effective decision and take appropriate action.

  • Maintain all yearly NC State Law Enforcement mandated in-service training requirements.

  • Work may be performed indoors in environmentally controlled or non-controlled conditions or outdoors in potentially adverse conditions on uneven ground in all types of weather. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, and intense noises as well as gases, workspace restrictions, vibrations, chemicals, and oils.
