Union Pacific Railroad is seeking a Law clerk to provide support for the Real Estate Group. This position will be administered as a year-round internship and provides hands-on experience in a fast-paced business environment with one of America's leading transportation and logistics companies.

The work schedule is flexible and can be designed to accommodate the course commitments of the successful candidate. A flexible work schedule includes up to 40 hours per week during the summer months and an average of 20 hours per week available during the academic year. Positions are only available while the students are in school and do not guarantee full time employment upon completion of the internships.

Accountabilities

Support managers on contractual review, interpretation and application.

Interpret deeds, easements, and legal descriptions.

Verify the accuracy and completeness of records with the Real Estate Group.

Review and organize documents in electronic repositories to facilitate efficient and comprehensive retrieval of work product.

Draft agreements, assignments, permits, and licenses.

Requirements

College credit towards a Doctorate degree Candidate must be a full time student in law school and have college credit towards a Doctorate degree.
1 year(s) experience in computer applications demonstrating proficiency with MS Office software applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, and / or Access). Strong PC skills and aptitude are required.

Advanced communication skills . Candidate must have completed course work in Property, Contracts, and at least one semester of Legal Writing.

Preferred Skills
1 year(s) experience / knowledge in business principles such as finance, economics, math, IT, accounting, or actuarial science

Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills including a demonstrated ability to analyze legal issues.

This internship position provides the following opportunities and job responsibilities: Essential Job Functions: Supports the closing of commercial mortgage loan investments through assisting the Closing Manager/Closer with the review and analysis of any and all documentation required, including but not limited to drafting closing document checklists, contact lists, and insurance requests, calculating and drafting closing statements, performing OFAC searches, scheduling and confirming kick-off calls, conveying weekly closing checklist updates, and performing initial reviews of title commitment, survey and zoning report particulars. Will be assisting with review of Third Party Reports, insurance certificates, search reports, management agreements, and leases and estoppels, as needed. Will also follow-up on closing and post-closing documents and assist with actual closings. * Supports the origination process as needed by the loan officer and/or analyst. * Any other project based work as required by the Investment Management department. * Interface with outside counsel, borrower, borrower's counsel, mortgage banking closers and loan officers, title companies, surveyors and insurance advisers, among others and be an integral part of the closing process. * Periodically attend various committee meetings to provide a broad perspective of Investment Management and the Mortgage Loan Program. Minimum Qualifications: Interns for this position are required to work 15-20 hours per week during the school year and 15-30 hours during the summer months, depending on schedule. * Experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel. * Ability to communicate effectively both written and oral. * Able to work effectively in a team environment. * Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or better. Preferred Qualifications: * Second Semester College junior in spring of 2019 preferred. * Completion of introductory level paralegal classes. * Paralegal, Real Estate or Business/Financing majors strongly preferred. * Possess strong organizational, problem-solving, analysis and decision-making skills. * Strength in attention to detail.
