What You'll Get to Do:
The law clerk will assist in tracking documents that must be carefully controlled and reviewed to determine if they are potentially subject to attorney-client or other privileges.
Most of the documents will be in the form of electronically stored information ("ESI") that will be stored or mounted on, and transferred among, various devices and platforms. Some of these documents will be in hard copy.
The law clerk will also assist in reviewing and tagging documents to assist in determining if they are potentially subject to attorney-client or other privileges.
The law clerk's work will be carried out at the direction of and with guidance from one or more Assistant United States Attorneys with responsibility for conducting the privilege review. Collection of documents for review takes place on an ongoing basis in multiple cases.
The law clerk may also be called on to engage in legal research, assist in preparing legal documents, testify if required concerning privilege research procedures, and assist attorneys with other work, as directed.
Requires a Law degree.
Must be eligible for a U.S. security clearance. (U.S. citizenship required)
You'll Bring These Qualifications:
Requires sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and legal research resources.
Requires excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of standard legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
Must have hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, and imaging.
Also requires hands-on familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of e-Discovery procedures and resources.
