Job Description and Duties

This position is for Coalinga State Hospital.

Under supervision from the Clothing Center Manager, performs skilled work in washing operations in a Clothing Program, to maintain and make minor adjustments and repairs to laundry machinery and equipment; may supervise, instruct, and work with employees and helpers from the patient/resident population. the Minimum Qualifications for this position:

Either I

One year of experience in the California state service performing the duties of a Laundry Worker Assistant.

Or II

Two years of experience in a laundry. This experience must have included operation of washers, tumblers, and other washroom equipment.

Working Conditions

Sufficient strength and agility to load unload and operate industrial capacity laundry machines. Understanding of and willingness to work with the patient/resident population of a State institution; personal cleanliness; freedom from communicable diseases; and ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.

Department Information

DSH-Coalinga opened in 2005 and began treating forensically committed patients, mostly of which are sexually violent predators. It is a self-contained psychiatric hospital constructed with a security perimeter. California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) provides perimeter security as well as transportation of patients to outside medical services and court proceedings.
